R56 Ambient Lighting: What color are you?
#251
I personally think this alone is ridiculous beyond belief. We spend so much money on our cars and we barely have any control over how it operates? Seems ridiculous to me. Even more so when you realize how much code is in a car these days, updates should happen more than when the dealer happens to do it to fix some issue.

Toggle switches up by the rear view mirror, second one over from the right. If you keep pressing it it will go through the colors. If you hold it down, it will fade from one color to the next. I'm partial to purple and red, but I like that I can change up the look inside the car when I feel like it. While not all that dramatic, I love this little feature because it separates the MINI from other cars and it's one of those cool, uniquely MINI quirks.

Yes, that second from the left toggle controls the interior mood lighting, but the tach button that controls the instrument lighting goes from bright to really bright, not off to bright.
I have considered tinting the speedometer and tach lenses to cut down on the glare

That's strange, I was sure I got mine to go all the way down to very dim, then to off all the way. I will check again when the sun goes down. I am pretty sure I was able to completely shut off the dash lights by pressing that button repeatedly.

Wow! That would be great. Please let me know what you find; I might be headed to the Service Dept to get it fixed to go off when desired

No problem Scott
I went out and tried again and found the same thing. Looks like a tint shop and try some samples of different shades of black tint to see which level of tint will hide the numbers/indicators when on the very dimmest setting. I will probably try to cut little windows in it where important warning indicators would show if something went wrong.
The bright blue glare of the high beam indicator is really obnoxious! If you can't tell your high beams are on then start taking the bus
