Problems with the R56?
This might be a little too early but are there any problems to report yet with the R56. I know for example between the 01 and the 02 coopers, there was some nice refinments done to get things smoother. Is this going to be the case again or smooth sailing so far and no major glitches to report.

I've had my May build MCS for about 3 weeks. No major problems yet. Some minor ones:
1: Sunroof noisy above 50mph. Many others are reporting this, so I assume that it is "normal"
2: A few dash rattles, which only appear on very rough roads. I attribute this to the firm suspension, and the rigid sidewalls of the run flat Dunlops.

Check engine lights coming on...but these appear to be emissions-related and even then, not a problem as far as driving the car. A fix is apparently imminent. Seems to impact mostly R56 Coopers.

The 'check engine' light is a software issue which is fixed. The O2 sensor routine was too sensitive causing a false trigger of the light. Our builds should have the new firmware in them already gokartride.
Today I was on the freeway and noticed a slight bit of undulation in the throttle control of the cruise control. I am just noting it for right now. Romi has 731 miles on her and previous use of the cruise control has not shown this behavior.
But it was 93F outside and very humid as well. I need to check the air in the tires as well.
And the Dunlop runflats feel like they are made from solid rubber. I will be glad to get rid of them.

I've had the AstroS for 2.5 wks and just ticked over 1000 miles on it. No real problems to date. Only issue thus far is when I close the boot, I really need to close it, otherwise the warning light pops on when moving. It does seems to idle a bit rougher than my BMW did.
I did manage to put a dent/chip into it already, but that was of my own doing. But did lead me to question how good the paint is (I don't think it should have chipped nor dented). It's still pretty small, but it was down to bare metal so there's a small silver streak in the black.

Problems? Some have reported sunroof noise. I have a week 3 build, and don't have the problem. No check engine light, either.
The only problem I've had that a few others have reported is a "cruise control dropout," which turned out to be a software issue. My car was reprogrammed and all is well.
I turned over 6200 miles today.

Having read through mini2.com and here for the better part of six months, it seems there were some kinks with the first few months of 08 production (ie, S-transmission problems, sputtering/software issues, rattles, sunroof noise, and lack of secret glovebox to name a few). Most of those with deliveries after say April, the issues seemed to have faded away (disclaimer: generally speaking!).
I for one have no issues to report. After a month and 1700 miles, nothing but a few rattles to report which we've found and are planning to fix. The regular cooper is solid and fantastic to drive. Would buy another tomorrow... if a won the lottery.

Reason I ask these is, im SLOWLY preparing for a new cooper. Not for another year but by September of next year, I wanna have sold my 03 cooper and have the new cooper delivered to me and paid off too so im just starting to do some hunting. (yes, i know, long ways away )
but glad you fellow brothern and sisters havent had any glitches

To the O.P., have you checked out the stock problems/issues sub-forum?
EDIT: Oh yeah, and mine is fine minus some farting noises as it cools down.

No real problems on my week 3 build MCS. They did reflash the cruise software. Painless and with a loaner that they picked up on a flat bed when they returned my car to me at home. (Took longer than they expected to do the software.)
I loved my 1984 CRX. That was a first year car as well. Bought it used and owned it until 1992. It had its share of first year issues, but was a great car and a ton of fun. I miss it sometimes, but mostly for the times it represented.

My R56 MCS is almost 3 months old now and has about 4,500 miles. It has 3 annoying issues:
1. Cruise drops out sporadically on speeds higher than 70. Sometimes it stays in cruise for miles and sometimes it drops our 2x within one mile.
2. Windows roll down when the door is opened but don't roll up high enough when the doors are shut. So every time I open and shut the door, the gap keeps increasing - often to about 2 inches eventually.
3. After about 1000 miles it developed grinding sound while upshifting to 2nd & 3rd gears. This is more noticable when it is cold outside. Lately it has been in the 80's, so I haven't noticed this in a few days.
The closest dealership is 70 miles away, so I'm just being lazy about taking it in. All these issues are covered under warranty, so I'm not too concerned. And this was the one of the first batches of US release of R56, so I was expecting such issues anyway.

Seems like there are a lot of ex-CRXers out there. I'll tell ya, we have been serially disappointed in driving new cars over the years. No offense to anyone, but my wife and I planned on getting the MC until we compared it to her CRX. Fortunately, they make the MCS! It's amazing what losing 800lb from a car will do for performance and gas mileage. Can't get away with a 1700lb car these days, though. Damn SUVs! Still gets 40mpg. Amazing. Honda really *&##!@*& up over the past few years. Nothing in their lineup.
Sorry for the irrelevant post.

3 months and 3600 miles.
My only issue has been the chrome trim ring below the rear bumper came loose and was replaced under warranty. Other than that, zip.
Check out the "faults and Fixes" forums here and at MINI2. Just take them with a grain of salt as taking each one as a "common occurrance" will definately scare you away from the car.

A couple of small issues;
like skuzzy, I have a slight pulsing when in cruise control, I've noticed it whenever I use it,
very slight rattle/buzz in the dash on the passenger side.
I agree about the Dunlops, they are hard.
These things have not in any way diminished my joy in driving the car.
