I tracked the Don Juan when mine was coming over. One night it reported seas with 30ft waves - made me queasy thinking about it...

Think of it this way... Your car gets shipped by boat (isn't that redundant?) and in the process, gets it's 'sea legs'. Now, if you ever take your MINI onto a ferry, it won't throw up.

Those RO-RO (which means Roll On Roll Off, since all the cargo is moved on it's own wheels and power and strapped to the deck like cars on a carrier truck) ships are amazing really. Essentially a huge, floating parking garage, can haul over 5000 cars and mixed vehicles. They even have their own ramps on the back that lower to meet the pier. All self-contained.

Now comes the question. Why are the cars on the ships called 'cargo' and the cars delivered by truck a 'shipment'?

And another question....if the MINIs are rolled on/rolled off the ship and presumably need to "roll" to the semi-truck car carrier, then to the VDC, then through quality checks, then back onto a truck, then to the dealer.....just how is it possible that folks take delivery of MINIs that show "0", "1", or "2" miles on the odometer?

I am guessing the distance traveled is not that far. maybe a couple 100 yards here and there.

Personally, as long as they weren't customer test rights, but checks by MINI or dealer, I'd rather have a few miles on a car judging from a couple horror stories I've heard.

Aye, mine had 11, Blimey. Which is fine. But I read in another thread...something about "mileage at delivery"...and folks were posting "0", and "1"....and I don't see how that's possible. No biggie, just one of life's mysteries I guess.

My odometer showed 6 miles. I don't know how "0" is possible... I figure that at least 9 people drove my Mini before I did.

can be installed by dealer.

If you ordered them from the factory they show up at the dealer with them already installed.

For exactly the same reason we drive on "Parkways" and park on "Driveways".
