Driving Lamps

Hey! I hope this is the right place to ask this...

I am about to order a 2007 MCS. I REALLY like the driving lamps and consider them a must have. My question is, am I getting ripped off by getting them through the dealer? How much more inexpensive are these aftermarket? And, how difficult are they for a person with not much experience to mount themselves? Any input would be great!!!

Thanks a lot!

Do a search on this Forum for "installation guide for the driving lamps" and it will bring up the thread pertaining to these lamps for the R56. As you can see from my Sig I installed them myself. (the OEMs)

It's kind of an expencive kit in itself. There's cheaper stuff in the aftermarket. Then again there's also cheaper stuff in the aftermarket, too so...

If you can do the install yourself, you're likely to save at least a couple hundred bucks.

That said, I got the OEM driving lights AND I had the dealer do the install. This was primarily due to a lack of patience. When the car finally arrived I wanted it right away and with all the accessories fitted.

If you're willing to pay $800 for a pair of auxillary lamps, you're not getting ripped off.
I, on the other hand, found that sum unconscionable, so I got discounted OEM lights and installed them myself. The install (R53 anyway) wasn't terribly complicated, but it does take a bit of work.

If you buy the oem kit yourself,Roughly ($500 )You get the lights,{ black or chrome} brackets, hardware, modified grille , wiring harness ,relay, fuse, colorline knee protector/ switch. Installation is a little tricky for the first timer, but not impossible for the Diy'r. You will always get help from us that did this install. EDIT.... BDY, I dont think that the brackets that were designed for the R53 will fit the R56 , If you buy a aftermarket kit.

The kit is 20% off at morristown mini. I think i figured it to be less than 400. I think i will buy them from there and try to install them myself. Still have to go to the dealer ot get them programmed to work

Nope - driving lights are independent of the BC1. Nothing to program. (Assuming it hasn't changed from R53 - it shouldn't have.)

OEMS on 07 R56 do not have to be programmed/ coded to work.

And here's the installation guide I posted a long time ago. I ended up letting the dealers do the install. I was very **** when the driving lights didn't match my stripes, so I had them redo the stripes.
