R56 MCS Mudflaps

Hi all,

Just got done installing the factory mudflaps on the R56. I attached the install instructions. They were very accurate. Took me about 1 hour to install. Would have been easier if I could remove the rear wheels. (I used a ratcheting right angle phillips because I had no access to a floor jack)
The install instructions are for US SPEC, but I presume EU is the same or similar.

The car definately looks better in my opinion, and does keep a lot of dirt off the sides.

Worthwhile mod and cheap. I think I paid about $65 US for the front and rear combined.

Yep, good Mod. Installed mine about three weeks ago, just in time for the north Texas monsoon.

Thanks for posting. We I mentioned putting on mud flaps while ordering, boy did I get some funny looks. I took it that this was a NO-NO among Mini owners or something. I thought was looking out for the well being of my car. Everything else I own comes stock with some type of mud flaps.

Thanks for posting the instructions. I got the same impression as MINI S Pilot--the mud flaps don't seem to be in fashion with the NAM crowd. The Configurator prices the set of front & rear mud flaps at $62. I'm guessing the dealership would want to charge who knows how much for installation. How did you purchase yours?

They seem very practical to me. I was thinking about mud flats after noticing how much tar has been deposited behind the wheels of my current car. Texas roads get very hot.

I'm hoping the instructions are easier to understand once I have parts in hand. Does "transfer bores" (p. 7) for front flaps mean simply marking where the tapping screws will need to go?

Yeah, I got the hoots about mud flaps too. Tough. Back in March, my dealer wanted almost $500 to install the mud-flaps. The MA claimed they got a TSA from MINI stating the rear bumper had to be removed to install them. I knew it was BS (that the bumber had to be removed; I don't know whether there really was a TSA). They agreed to honor their original price of $87 for the flaps and install, once I made it clear I was not inclined to let them breach our contract.. Anyway, I am glad I got the flaps. The front ones cut down on rain and mud along the door bottoms, as well as chipping from kicked up pebbles.

Aye, the mud flaps are a great edition. I added them to our R53 and I've ordered my R56 with them.

I plan on installing a set when I return home. IMO, the rear flaps are also a courtesy to the cars behind you.

Thanks for posting. I was gonna get some for mine especially for the amount of crap the tires deposit on the back end. They look really nice too!

My MA quoted $ 262 for mudflaps when we were ordering. I thought , gee that's pricey.. configurator said $ 62. 200 bucks for installation ! In your average auto shop w/hoist it would take about 20 minutes to do the job.
I ordered from out motoring and they were easy to install.

Where did you all buy your splash guards/mud flaps? From the dealer or 3rd party?

I ordered them from the dealer (without installation) when I ordered the MCS. Other vendors carry the OEM mud flaps. Check the vendor list on NAM and see who has the best price. In my causual looking, it seemed the the some were higher and some lower than the dealer price.

Nice simplified instructions. I bought mine from a dealer. The oem directions could be kinda vague, but I've been a tech for a long time also.

I like the look of your rear fogs. Did you install or order them with the car?
Mine looks like it's missing something from the rear valance without them.

I enjoy the color. Think it looks rich. Do you have the stripes? I have them(mini forgot to install) and like the look without.

I followed the PDF posted above (Thanks) and picked up a set of front flaps from Classic Mini for @ $20 after referencing NAM. I jacked up one wheel at a time and pulled the wheel just to make access easier. It was a piece of cake to install and took less than an hour and that included time to wash the back side of the wheels before I put them back on. For anyone considering doing it don't give it a second thought, it couldn't be easier.

I got the front ones, but the dealer told me that they couldn't put rear ones on due to the hyper aero kit. I was fine with that as I mostly worried about splatter on the front side bottoms, especially with the front wheel drive. I can live without the rears I guess.

I ordered mudflaps for mine and the dealer didn't have them in when I took delivery of the car. I put them on myself (if I can do that, anyone can) and found the rear flaps adhesive tape is pretty worthless in spots. All in all, I'm very pleased with look and functionality of the flaps.

Without mudflaps where are you going to put your chrome naked female silhouette?

Does anyone have a picture of the front flaps on an '7 S? I'm thinking of putting on mud flaps also as I live on a dirt road. The pics of the rear ones looks really nice! But the fronts are more functional for keeping the car safe from mud/gravel/tar. The back ones will just give me somewhere to put my chrome naked man sillouette.

Yes, more pictures please! (As if the MC I'm speccing needs any more options.) A side shot or a 3/4s shot or two would be swell. I want to see how they look on the car. I'm hoping to bribe the dealer into doing some of the simpler dealer add-ons since they're still selling it at MSRP. (Yeah, I know. Fat chance.)
