R56 MINI installed Alarm System
#27
IMO alarm systems are nothing more then over priced alarm clocks that disturb the neighbors. If they want your car they are going to take it. And any good thief worth their weight is going to know EXACTLY how to disarm the puppy. I installed an immobilizer that kills the electrical juice. A key is needed to make a reconnection and you need to know where to put that key. In addition that I have a fuel shut off.
Its not fail proof but its going to make it harder.

In anycase, in NY, most cars are stolen by flatbed truck, this allows them to ignore alarms, computerized electrical wiring/chips that most cars have today.
There isn't, and I will doubt there ever will be, a market for stolen MINI's. Lets face it, there not that much of a market for regular mini's.

Word of warning about aftermarket alarms...
With the complex nature of the R56 DME circuitry, MINI service is being very strict about any modifications to the MINI electrical system. If you install an aftermarket alarm (or any electrical accessory), be prepared for grief if you should have any problems that involves electronics while under warranty....
Your experience may vary depending on which MINI dealer you visit...

That's the theory, but the Magnuson-Moss Act has no teeth. If the dealer blames a problem on your mods and refuses to fix it under warranty, there's no recourse for you under the M-M Act other than to take it civil court, where MINIUSA can outspend you every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
