Interior Chrome trim How to?

I have the standared grey trim in my MCS. ( trim around the speedo-air vents etc) I want to get the chrome trim pieces and was wondering if anyone has an idea on how they go on. Will I have to take off the grey trim first then add the chrome or put the chrome ontop of the grey?

Just curious before I go and buy it.

Kevin, the answer is "yes".

Okay, translation: You can get either the pieces that replace the plastic trim (high $), or you can get plastic chromed covers that you simply pull off the adhesive backing and stick right over your OEM plastic trim.

Depends on how much money you want to spend and if you're willing to sacrifice a little quality.

If you're going to replace all the grey pieces with chrome, then you're going to have to take all the grey pieces off first and then replace them with the chrome ones. I know on my last car I had the service manual on CD. It was awesome. It basically showed you how to replace every part on the car. If you had one of those it would be easy. Without it, you'll have to search and see if anyone else has done it. If not, it's trial and error. Good luck.

Vendor ad for Outmotoring is selling leather trim rings and they are saying that you simply pull up on the existing rings and they will come off to be replaced by the new ones. Good luck.

Somewhere, I can't find it now, I found instructions for removing & replacing the speedometer trim ring. It was pretty involved. I'll post it when I can locate it. I figured the guy sold me the chrome ring because he didn't feel like going to that much trouble.

It`s very hard to change those parts. First of all you should take these in to consideration:

-Nothing goes over the existing silver rings
-Chrome rings don`t replace silver rings
-You have to remove every single part with the silver rings and install new parts with chrome rings.
-Only can holders` rings replace without removing any part.
-Tachometer housing and shift lever housing do not come with chrome rings inside the interior chrome line retrofit kit. You have to buy the complete tachometer and shift lever housing.

I`ve done the replacement by my self. The total procedure was horrible. I`m really capable of mechanical installations but this is out of the way!
If you really want it, talk to your dealer if they can remove those interior trims as careful as an owner.

By the way, the most tricky part is the center speedometer housing. I`ve send the instructions to a thread but I can`t remember which one.

Are you trying to say you can't get interior chrome pieces that just fit over the existing plastic trim ?

Just clarifying.

Ohhhh well.
I'll have to stick with the origional trim then. I got the car off the showroom floor. So I cant be too pickey. I guess I'll keep it as it is. Thanks for all your info and help guys! -maybe thell be an aftermarket stuff for it soon bc the r56 just came out.

Forget how to install these chrome bits, you`ll have to remove all these pieces to install the new parts with chrome:

-Door trim panels
-Dashboard trim panel, top
-Center console cover
-Passenger knee protector
-Storage compartment
-Piano Black-in my car- trims
-Air outlet grill/cover right and left
-A column covers

These are the main parts and there are several minor parts as well.

Have the aftermarket vendors not developed yet for the R56 ?

And I didn't realize the trim rings changed in the R56 from previous generations.
