Peugot or Citroen
Does anyone know for certain whether the R56 engine is of Peugot or Citroen manufacture/design? Lot's of talk both ways.

This engine is a collaboration between Mini, Peugeot and Citroen. The parts are manufactured by the PSA Peugeot Citroen plant, with final assembly at Mini's Hams Hall.

Somewhat ironic since Citroen was so upset when the original Mini cleaned their clock at the Monte Carlo Rally.

Maybe Mini should go back to rallying. Maybe that will teach BMW what LSDs are for, since they're so reluctant to put them in their cars, other than the Ms.

I thought I read somewhere that the turbo is a Borg Warner K03, twin scroll variety. Similar to the one used in the Audi 2.0T

The full number on the MCS turbo is 5303 970 01 18. The 5303 is the frame with 03 signifying the K03 series (according to references on the internet).
Here's a thread. I've not seend a compressor map yet, but the fact some tuners are getting the stock turbo up to 17 psi is encouraging.

I heard from a Renault engine engineer that basically BMW designed the Mini engine in exchange for Peugeot to provide small diesel to BMW (Peugeot is one of the best small diesel engines in Europe). Peugeot apparently also manufactures the 1.6l gas engine too.
Make what you want of it.
