What Color Is Your Ambient Lighting?
Hey everyone,
I was just curious to see what everyone's color preference was for their ambient lighting. I prefer the blue because I like the color contrast it makes on the center stack, but my wife prefers the orange because it matches.
What are everyone's thoughts?

I like blue because (on my MINI anyway) the lighting on the doors is brighter and the center downlight is dimmer, more moonlit in appearance. Orange is cool too but is the exact opposite...less bright on the doors and very bright in center. If I wanted that for some reason, I'd switch to orange, but for now blue is working for me. The purples/pinks are all in-between so I suppose there is a theoretical middle ground that's desirable...I just like the intensity on the doors that blue offers. Also, I think blue is a nice compliment to, and doesn't compete with, the orange gauge lighting.

I use the blue primarily, but I do like the orange as well. I have noticed that some of the in-between colours, particularly the one right next to the pure blue, will separate into the component parts when I dart my eyes, which I find distracting. I am also sensitive to the DLP 'rainbow effect' with DLP projectors and rear-projection sets, for the same reason.

I wish there was a way to dim the dash board and not the mood lights. I tend to keep it on blue as it shows up when the dash is dimmed a little better. Am I missing something?
There is a way to dim them. If I recall you press the left button on the tach. I forget which is which, but you hold it down for one way, and press repeatedly for the other.

I like a few of the colors but I seem to land on blue and the fuschia/purpley color. I am also trying out the 'in between' color you can get if you hold the toggle switch and then let go when it's transitioning. Orange kind of nice right now since it's halloween time, or if you like safety orange color in general. I too wish there was a true red. Our VW EOS has similar lights that do not change, but they are a true red and I really like them.

When I finally get my MINI, it'll be blue. I'm coming from a Volkswagen, so I'm used to blue dashboard lights. I can't get that with the MINI dash, so this is a close compromise. Not longing for the VW, of course. But after living with it in practice for 9 years, any dash color combo other than blue and red is ridiculous.
I say this now, since my MINI isn't here yet. (It's inexplicably sitting at the VDC, where it's been for a full week already.) I may have to change my stance when it arrives. If the red is any good, I could go with that. My college's colors are maroon and orange, which is perfection, so the red could be a nice approximation inside the car with the orange dash.

I like the orange and your wife.
