How Do You Get the Turn Signal Marker Light On When Parked?

I've searched the forums but can't find a post that explains how to turn on the left or right marker light when parked. I also read the manual and it describes shutting the car off and then simply pushing the turn signal stalk to the desired position. Is this feature part of a package?

Works that way on the First Gens.

on mine, you just flick the stalk down to the desired side. you have to kind of hold it there for 2 seconds.

ghost,
So you shut the car off, take out the key (if used) and then move the stalk?
I tried that and the dang thing just kept blinking like a turn signal! Do the lights need to be in the off position or on position?

Are you talking about the turn signal (blinking) or the parking light (on steady), which turns on either the left or right tail and front turn signal light?

LynnEl,
Yes, I'm referring to keeping the left or right rear tail light and the front turn signal marker lights on (sorry if I didn't describe it very well!)

On the stalk, there are two positions with sideways triangles. One points left, the other points right. Those are them. Turn the stalk to the triangle pointing in the direction of the light you want on.

LynnEl,

Effing brilliant - BTW I love sarcasm so keep it up!

Now can you describe the steps required to get the light to stay on? Assuming you read my previous posts in this thread, you'll discover that I'm shutting the car down and then pressing the turn signal stalk in the desired direction (i.e. left arrow or right arrow) that I want the side marker light to stay on when parked......but all that happens is that the turn signal starts blinking.....so clearly I'm not getting the desired result.

Any useful information would be appreciated. Thanks!

I wasn't being sarcastic. If you are pushing the signal assmebly up/down, you are turning on the signals. If you rotate the ****, you are turning on the parking lamps. If you are akchilly doing that, but they blink anyway, it sounds like a programming error.

My apologies for mis-interpreting your comments.

I guess we are finally at the heart of my question: Is that all I'm supposed to be doing?!? Just turning off the car and pressing the stalk up or down?

The Meal,

I appreciate your response - and as I stated earlier, I read the manual and followed those directions. What I didn't recall seeing was the asterix which I think means that it is an option. (which is what I asked in my opening post)......so is it part of the convenience package (that I don't have - although I do have parts of it).

Hmmm... I didn't think it was part of a package, but I have all the packages, so maybe it is.....

I think it's a market-specific feature. Many european cars offer it.

Pages 18 & 19 also indicate that the personal profile (stored in your key) can affect the behavior of pathway lighting (amongst other things).

Oh ho! Page 59 also states:
Parking lamps
Turn the light switch to position 1
The front, rear and side vehicle lighting is switched on.
Activation of lights on one side of the vehicle for parking, page 61.
Position 1 corresponds to the first CCW setting (looking in driver's side window down stalk) beyond Position 0 "Lamps off and daytime running lamps" and previous to Position 2 "Low beams."

Nevermind!

I got it to work this evening but I think the trouble I was having may have something to do with the Comfort access system. When you don't use the key (in the ignition - but you have them in your pocket), and then shut the car down, the radio still plays and the turn signals just blink. I got them to come on after I locked and unlocked the car with the key fob. I'll have to play around with it some more, but I can finally go to sleep tonight knowing that I've got'em. Phew.

when i park, i press the start/stop button twice... the first time kills the engine, the second one turns off the radio. Locking/unlocking does the same i believe. I also have the comfort access.

YES!!!

I just figured that out this morning by coincidence - I pushed the start/stop button again after shutting down and then I simply pushed the stalk in the desire direction.

Thanks for info - I appreciate the help!

It's the law in Germany if you park on the side of a street the front and rear parking lights closest to the street are required to be on after dusk. It's been that way for at least 25+ years.

I always push the buttom twice. I guess that's why I couldn't understand where the problem was...
