Woohoo, congrats! Unless you're paying for the car with cash, a $500 option adds so little to your monthly payments that IMO it's a no brainer.

Best of luck

Well I did it. The deposit has been paid and the waiting has begun.

I ended up getting the DSC, for all those in that camp. I decided it was relatively cheap insurance. As Msteadman said tit doesn't add much to the monthly, although I'll probably just put $500 more down.

The others options remain the same. I'll probably order mud flaps shortly after delivery as well and just put them on myself. I've got the install procedure from somewhere on NAM saved.

The only odd thing that I encountered was that the dealership wanted me to buy a "protection package", after seeing it written it sounds a little criminal. It would've included rubber mats, paint sealant, interior sealant, a CD sun visor holder, and a rear bumper protector. the whole would have come to around $800. I said no thank you and feel I made the right choice.

Your MA is confused. He is thinking of ASC, which prevents wheel-spin under acceleration. You cannot get an MC or MCS without ASC.

DSC would be useful on both the MC and MCS as it only deals with drifiting (i.e., when the car is not going where the wheels are pointed). While it might be argued that MCS drivers might be more prone to getting themselves into trouble, either car is as likely to get into an emergency situation that is caused by another driver. Your MA is giving out very bad advice.

I also would have it if only for the hill assist feature. I love it. No more manipulating the handbrake to keep from rolling backwards, and initially my driveway slopes up pretty good and with the dip at the sidewalk you can't get a running start.
I actually prefer the handbrake method for steep hills, but I can see how some would like hill assist. It does take the worry of rolling back into the car behind you at a stoplight on a hill.

You definitely did the right thing! The only thing I would quibble about is that the MAs often throw in mats on their own. You might see if you can sqeeze him for this.

At any rate, welcome to the Koolaid Krowd! (Where is that Koolaid pitcher smilie when I need it?)

The waiting is the hard part...

Robin, Yes, I know my MA was wrong. My own research told me to get it and I did.

Geekswrath, you made the right decisions all around. Great car.

Wow, that video is amazing. I had no idea DSC was that effective. I'm definitely going to get it when I (finally) order my MINI.

Good glad you are, everyone should get it. I don't know why mini just doesn't make dsc standard on the mc and mcs, they made dsc standard on the clubman.

Huh. Watched that video and now wish I had ordered DSC- that was impressive. Oh well, I survived without it for 25 years of driving, with some crazy snow conditions. Guess it will be on the next car though...

If you guys want to see how DSC works go out to a smooth open field. l did that the other day! There was an art show and the dirt road allowed me to "blow" a little dust. As it was sliding sideways l corrected it and the car touched the brakes and away we went straight as an arrow.........it was so cool! l did it til my wife asked.."are we done!!" hehehehe, of course not!
