Break dust question

I have an 07 MCS for 3100 miles. I can clean the tires and wheels and drive it to the store and back, and it's loaded with break dust again. Does this ever stop?

Nope.

It can be less with different kinds of pads. There's lots of info here on what pads people are using.

It happens all the time because our mini's have top quality break pads. I also own a BMW 528xi and had an X3....same break dust problem.. but they sure stop when you want them too.... I suggest reguarly clean them but make sure to read the cleaning products to make sure they don't damage your rims. Always make sure to apply the cleaner when rims have cooled down..

Change the pads....

You may notice that German cars have bad BRAKE dust issues while *** cars don't..... Germans seen to feel that soft pads and rotors is the path to effective brakes....alto that WILL cause bad dust. Harder compounds = less dust?

The quick solution is to change your pads.....but there are + and - to this

+ Once my EBC Greenie front pads had about 300 miles on 'em I can easily go a week with out freaking over needing to wash the wheels (ya gotta get past the break in coating). I only changed the front pads and now the dust level twixt front and rear is about the same... I did the same on my 02 years ago. I still have under 5000 on my 07, but learned on my 02

- The dealer isn't going to cover your replacement pads... aka "it is going to void the warranty". OK - they won't replace my front pads and rotors....having done this change I don't want them to put OEM on there anyway. The rest of the warranty is unimpacted......if they try to tell you it does you are working with a p#ss poor dealer.

I've performed this 'mod' for a few folks.....no complaints. EBC are perfectly fine pads for street use alto the A/Cr's love to argue about Hawk vs EBC (or others). IMHO, the EBS Greens are lower dust and what I recommend to those who ask for my help. Fine for use on stock calibers/rotors....

Search for brake pad change here and find great DIY here by searching but be advised that the brakes changed fm GEN 1 to GEN 2 .... Even easier then they were on GEN 1 IMHO. The DIY help here still helps but realize the parts have changed - primarily the discontinuance of the 'allen bolt'.

Front pads take about 15 min a wheel once you have experience....go for it.

You can get EBC pads from MiniMania or Moss or PepBoys altho PB will probably need to order them...and depending on the counter person, getting MINI parts at PB can be entertaining

One can also wax their wheels. This will make the brake dust come off with less effort. There are a few waxes designed just for wheels. Detailers Paradise has Wheel Armour that I just applied for the first time this weekend.

On my WRX I just ordered dustier pads because the original brakes on this car suck!

There are no stock replacement ceramic pads available for the R56 yet. As soon as thereis, I will be replacing Romi's pads.
