Chrome Line Exterior retrofit?

Hopefully someone can answer this. I want to add the chrome grill surrounds that come with the chromeline exterior. Someone has the chrome trim pieces available and I was wondering if they can be added do the standard grilles or do I need to get different grilles.

Realoem has a diagram and it looks like I need a different grill. Here is the link for the retrofit:http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...71&hg=51&fg=95

Here are the links to the front and rear bumpers:

I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this. Thanks.

If you want the chrome you need to get part number #8 in the diagram.

You can't just add the chrome piece it has to come with a new grill ( has holes in it to attach chrome trim) You get what I am saying?

The Chrome trim is listed seperatly because if you already have the chrome line exterior and need to replace it you can do so.

But since you dont have the correct grills You need these part numbers to get chrome line exterior.

Front:
51112756991 (Chrome trim and Grill, comes together)

Rear:
51122753655 Chrome Trim
51122753654 Grill

Could you just swap your grilles with the person with the trim pieces available? I'd imagine they'd rather have the standard grilles over ones that have the holes in them from the clips for the chrome.

I was thinking about doing this myself. I didn't get it when I ordered because I didn't want the chrome mirrors or boot handle, but I would like the chrome trim around the grilles.

The person already sold the front bumper with the grill. He has all the trim pieces and the rear bumper grill. I'll look into this one more and see if I can get some prices.

I too passed on the chrome option because I didn't like the mirror or boot handle.

I was quoted 123.73 for the front piece. I imagine that this is MSRP and that a place like Morristown or Classic would be righ around $100.

Does that include the chrome piece? I noticed it said only for cars with the chrome line option.

that part number is for the grill and chrome part. I think it says for chrome line cars only is so you would not get by mistake as the normal black grill. My MA said you do have to take the whole front bumper off in order to swapp the grill. Kind of scarry to me.

Wow this is an old thread. Anyways, here are the part numbers for the grills with the chrome line:

Front: 51112756991 $50 at Morristown MINI

Rear: 51122756992 $104 at Morristown MINI (For whatever reason, the rear grill is lists as a European spec part. So make sure you tell the parts guy that if he has trouble finding the part.)

I get mine in a few days. Rear will be relatively easy. The front will be more challenging. Some people have been able to remove the front grill without moving the bumper. I'll let you know how it goes.
