Anthracite Headliner...

I didn't know the headliner came in gray standard...as the car I test drove had the black headliner so I thought that came standard. Is there a way I can have this changed to the Anthracite Headliner...? With the vanities and all that good stuff or is this strictly a factory option???

If your car has not been scheduled for production, this change can be done by the Dealer. I had changes made to my car order about a week after I ordered the car. Call the Dealer. Good luck.

We changed our order to Anthracite at the last minute when we realized that it's not just the headliner but all of those other bits.

I ordered the Antracite but candidly think it's a little wacked that they charge $250 more for the darker color. I can't understand why it would cost any more for them to produce it in a dark color as compared to gray.

I know, that bugs me too. I do so prefer it though and wish it were an option on every car.

WOW $667.25, I guess the $250 is a steal! I love my Anthracite HL, but I agree even at $250 it's kinda BS. I mean if it were leather or suede then sure, but for just black that should be a FREE option.

MINI likes to sell you the same item twice in more areas than the headliner. I didn't want the anthracite headliner, but did pay for the lounge leather. I love the seats, but they, like the headliner, are overpriced. I can't believe there is any cost difference for the different color headliners, I think it is just a little extra profit they can't resist.

Maybe it is an economy of scale?
(I don't disagree that it is over priced mind you)

But if you make 400,000 of the grey ones and
5,000 of the black ones there is a good chance
that per unit the black ones will cost more.

But then again, if they were not so much extra money....
like $50 say, maybe it would be more like 205,000 of the
greay and 200,000 of the black.

Now that I think about it maybe it just is Extra Dealer Profit (EDP).....

(numbers just made up out of the air)

You've hit my one buyer's regret item. I didn't order the anthracite headliner on my Clubman that has the black punch leather interior and piano black trimline. The main reason was I really didn't understand the option and the Configurator really makes no visual changes when you add that option. It seemed like an unnecessary $250 spent.

Then after ordering the car and going to the Owner's lounge, I stumbled onto the Mini International site. I used their Configurator to build my car as if I was in the U.K. The configuration is quite different, and in my opinion, give a 1000% better representation of the car's appearance. When you select the Anthracite option on that Configurator, the difference hits you right between the eyes. Now I know Anthracite would be my #1 option to select.

But I'm sure I'l grow to like the gray when the hot summer months hit.....

Here is the link to the U.K site for folks that don't have direct access via the Owner's Lounge.

http://www.mini.co.uk/

By the way - we are getting a deal in the USA if you consider currency exchange rates. My car in the U.K. would be $8k more expensive.

Thanks, that's what I get for working on more than 1 PC.
COVER FOR OPERATING UNIT FOR ROOF 61313422630 $12.25
That bumps it up to $679.50

I didn't know about this option or the piano black either, until I started reading the forums on this site. Y'all've had an... interesting effect on my relationship with the dealership (namely, in that I've become a complete PIA). My car was already scheduled for production when I learned about these two things, so my qvetching eventually made them agree to just place a new order for me, and to sell the old order on their lot.

I must ashamedly admit that I have When-Harry-Met-Sally'ed MINI of San Antonio. (Though, I have to say, getting their reactions during this has really changed my mind about the dealership. Their customer service is outstanding!)

It also looks as if the sun visors are anthracite. That will probably add another couple hundred $ to chubbychecker's list.

I reordered my car, in order to get the Anthracite headliner, because it was too late. My MA was unhappy, but I'm glad I did.

Thanks for that, liafia. That makes me feel less guilty, knowing it's not that rare an occurrence, and that in the end, it's worth it.
