trip odometer reset button not always working?

I filled up at a gas station for the 1st time yesterday, and I wanted to zero out my trip odometer so I could compare mpg by hand vs. the computer. But pressing the little 0,0 button did nothing. Pressed several times, then ended up holding it down too long which put the computer into diagnostics. Had to restart the car twice to get out of diagnostics, but after that, when I pressed the 0,0 button it reset the trip 'meter to zero like it is supposed to. Don't tell me, the software is made by Micro$oft and needs constant rebooting to function properly?

Anyone else have this happen?

I had this happen the first time I tried to reset. I held the button down waiting for it to go to zeros. It didn't. Then I held it down again for about 2 seconds and released and it reset. I've been doing the 2-second-then-release ever since and haven't had an issue.

i noticed initially that it took just a real quick depress for it to reset to 0. Every time i held longer than a half second it wouldn't reset. So just a quick jab should do it. Although if you keep having problems you may want to have your SA look at it.

My car takes a very quick press to reset it. Just like pressing any momentary button would. Press and release in the same motion, no holding necessary.

Mine will only reset with a very short press.

Thanks all, guess I should have said that I did press it very briefly at first. After that didn't work, I tried holding it down longer.

After restarting the car, I pressed it exactly the same way I did the first time I tried it, and it reset just fine.

I'll see what happens next time, and ask the SA if it does it again.
