One-Touch Sunroof?

Is there a way to make the sunroof "one-touch" like the windows are?

ie, hit it to Open and let it go and it will open all the way...

Sure would be nice...

Thanks,
Mark

The R56 is a "two-touch" I guess you can say...

OPEN
1. Hit open - The sunroof tilts up
2. Hit open - The sunroof opens fully

CLOSE
1. Hit close - The sunroof closes but stays tilted up
2. Hit close - The sunroof closes fully

It works this way because the switch can only go 2ways - forward / back.

Where as the last gen MINI's button went 3 ways - up / forward / back.

I guess you could call it a deisgn fault having a toggle switch for the sunroof...

I thought you had to hold it in the open position until it finished tilting up, then you have to hold it open to open it all the way and the same with closing it?

Lucky, I wish mine was like that so I didn't have to hold it while driving down the freeway or something.

The UK models are the same as the Australian, one flip tilt second flip fully open.

I just test-drove one yesterday in the USA and our version is NOT one-touch...much to my dismay! Having one-touch in my Maxima I've grown quite accustomed to it, and was VERY surprised that the Mini does not have that simple, nice feature. Has it on the windows but not on the roof, and now even sillie, if they USED to have it and no longer do?!? Odd!

Strange how the European version and the Australian version are one-touch and US is not. I wonder if it is because in the US you need an anti-pinch sensor and in the other countries you don't?

My US version is not one touch, you have to hold it to open fully. I have tried every other possible approach.

The sunroof will open or close to any position as long as you hold the switch. EG. The sunroof is closed. If you hold the switch on open and not let go, the sunroof will tilt open and continue until opened fully. I guess it's not one touch switch but one 'hold' switch.

I beg to differ... my sunroof stops (most times) at the vent position - either opening or closing - and requires me to release the switch and then hit it again to continue... Occasionally it will pass right thru the vent position when closing, but it's inconsistant and I do not know what conditions must be present for it to do this...

Hi Mark,

No it works like I described and I have a video to show but at the moment having difficulties trying to share it. (any suggestions here will greatly be appreciated) The only explaination I can offer is that maybe the software is different. FYI, I am in Australia and it's the MCS 2008 with JCW ECU upgrade. A note re after the upgrade was done, all my preset were lost, all back to factory defaults. (upgrade more than just engine management?)

Its probably i liability issue here in the US. Someone might get there head stuck in there and then sue. My last car had 1 touch open, but to close it, you had to hold the button down. Same reason why I can't get a hot cup of coffee anywhere.

Yeah, seems the USA R56 requires a constant push to open and close, which sucks, particularly when needing to shift (why people complained about a lack of auto up windows, but not about the lack of an auto open sunroof in the 2007 model year is beyond me)

I also see some of you saying that you have to push again after you get to the vent position. If you feel around at the toggle, you'll notice that it actually has four "positions." I'll call them "hard forward," "soft forward," "soft back" and "hard back." Hard forward will close the sunroof all the way... past the vent position from fully open. Soft forward will close the sunroof all the way from vent, or to vent from fully open. Soft back will open the sunroof to vent from fully closed and to fully open from vent. Hard back will open the sunroof all the way from closed. I'm not sure this applies to the non-USA versions, but it's worth a shot.

Hmmm...at a single touch, my '07 will tilt up (I'm assuming that's what you mean by the "vent" position.) But I do have to hold it for the sunroof to open all the way. AND hold it to get it to close all the way.

NOW for my question: When I'm holding it down to close (either from full open or from tilt) sometimes it closes and before I can stop holding, it pops back open like I opened it!! What's up with that? I have to jerkily hold it down again to close it...???
