2008 Tire Pressure sensors... Can they be retrofitted to any rim

I am going to have to keep my eyes out for 16" or larger wheels for winter tires and I restricted to OEM wheels from 2008+ only. I think the 07 use a different way of sensing the pressure.

Also does anyone have an idea what the sensors cost for a set of 4?

Many aftermarket tires will accommodate pressure sensors. Since they are now mandated by the Feds., the wheel companies have to comply to stay in business. It is good to check before buying, but you shouldn't have difficulty finding wheels.

My understanding is that the sensors are universal, so you can get them from most tire places.

Yes 200 bucks for Beru sensors.
I think you have to make sure you tell them it's for a MINI or BMW when you order because they can operate at different frequencies.
