To sunroof or not to sunroof: that is my question?

I know this is a familiar topic on this forum, but I can't decide. If I don't add the sunroof, I might add the JCW Aero Kit instead.

Has anyone opted for the sunroof, who now regrets having one?

Conversely, does anyone regret not ordering one?

mine comes in this week and i opted out of the sun roof due to a few factors with the main reason being the it is never fully shaded. there is only the perforated windscreen that closes so the sun always shines in the car. a few other reasons i opted out of it were weight, rattling, possible leakage down the line. it is a very sexy sunroof though, but i dont regret not getting it

I never liked the idea of 80lbs. of glass over my head, but then my first MINI was rear-ended and totaled by a LYNX Bus with myself and my 2 y/o daughter on board. We weren't hurt but I can't say that would have been the same if that glass had rained down upon us!

I've never been much in to sunroofs, but I ordered it on my '06. Mostly thinking it would help if I ever tried to sell it. Turns out I use it all the time and am very glad to have it. The mesh shade isn't any problem for me either. They sell inserts that fit in there to give complete coverage if you want. I'd make my own out of that metalized bubble wrap insulation they sell at Home Depot if it ever becomes an issue. I do park in the garage at home and have covered parking at work though.

On the other hand, I've become addicted to autocross lately so if I were to buy another MINI the weight and racing would be my only concern.

why would i spend 30k on a car and used metalized bubble wrap as sunroof shade?

the point is they should have made a two piece design that consisted of both a solid piece and the perforated windscreen.

Faced the same dilemma. Chose not to get it. I read too many posts on rattles and didn't feel like spending extra money to tint it etc. I never use it much in my other cars and less weight is good. Also opted out of NAV. Will get a garmin at some point. My biggest problem was choosing a color and roof etc. Good luck!

I have the double sunroof - LOVE it - get the feel of a convertible if I choose -= also got it tinted. It adds to the feel of total fun-ness motoring round town. Besides, you can stick your hand out the top & give a big wave or thumbs up to other Mini's out there. It's a fun car -- go for it!

For me, that SUNROOF made it possible to consider the MINI Hardtop.

Get the sunroof. It is a nice touch. Only 3 reasons not to get the roof:
1. money
2. tracking
3. graphics on the roof

The moonroof gives the feel of an open roof without the weight and flex issues. It is only a little heavier than the non-sunroof.

Color and roof is my other big quandary. Pepper White/Black and save $500 or go stealth in all black?

Personally, I love sunroofs, but didn't want one only because of the price (here in Canada, it costs $1,500 for the roof + heated seats). However, at the end, I took it. Main reason is that all cars are ordered with them and it's the #1 feature that adds value when selling it. Lots of people wouldn't touch a car without it, so I figured it would pay for itself down the road.

because it's the same stuff they sell for sunshades in most stores, and I already have some in my garage.

The point was, that I don't feel you actually need one.

I had a sunroof on my 06 Mini, and I ended up adding a solid movie screen material to the mesh as the mesh one that comes with the car allows too much sunlight through for my liking. I didn't use it too much, once in a while for a moon light rides, etc.. They are a nice option. I didn't like the noise at 80 mph. I will probably not add it on my next Mini which I'm ordering this week. I too was concerned about the glass raining down, or in the case of a roll-over not having the additional steel over my head.

I never had any rattle or any metal bubble wrap. If you live in Europe u need the sun roof just to see the traffic lights. Any one whining about any sun in ur eye is a baby and should trade the MINI for a TWINGO or a CORSA!!!!! FRENCHIE

+1 get the sunroof. I had concerns of lack of sun shade too, but then I got a union jack graphics on it which helps and it is so cool to have the union jack shadow inside the mini!!!!!

I also think you should get the sunroof. I wasn't too sure about those sorts of things, didn't much see the point, until we had a convertible and then sold it last winter. I missed the convertible a lot, but there were a couple of things that I didn't miss, in particular I didn't miss the bugs in my teeth.

Everything I missed about the convertible is more than made up for by the sunroof in my MINI. Everything that I don't miss, I don't have to live with, and the windscreen and shade are really nice.

Go for it!

Could make that two, as sunroof graphics would be great. Like what is seen on many city buses, would also completely block that 'dreaded glare'.

For that, (and interior as well) you MUST visit a dealer with a good stock.

I went thinking of white/blue, but seeing them, was surprised to like Mellow-Yellow the best and Pepper-White would have been second choice.

Black roof/accent in both cases, (especially w/sunroof) and they all come with black accents around wheels and windows.

Get a sunroof and have it tinted to 5% so the sun won't get in your eyes when it's not in use.

I know there are better options but I would kill myself to make the sunroof go away.
