R56 First wave! Made my day.

Since I got my MINI in late April, I have waved to every other MINI is have seen. Sadly, only 1 or 2 have waved back. Most are oblivious or look at me like my hair is on fire.
Did see my first clubman on the road today ... Did not wave at the driver because I was on foot. That WOULD have warranted a strange look!

Can you post a link or send me the link to the thread you are refering to?

I've been trying to drive with my sunroof open (when it's actually cooperating...) in order to get a more effective wave that people could see.

Here in Atlanta we have tons of MINIs zooming around but I've noticed that the only time I get waves or waves returned are from MCS drivers.
Wonder why that is?
I probably pass 3 or 4 a day on my 5 miles commute. I'd say 1 in 4 waves. My wife thinks I'm goofy for waving at folks I think given the low return rate.

I'm grabbing an MC instead of MCS, main reason being MPG (when I'm not going to be just having fun with it). Both can be had by a MINI fan.
If I were a MINI driver in Atlanta, I'd probably be having lots of bad days since the traffic is so horrible and I wouldn't be driving so much as parking. I spent two years there and I swore never again (GA400 blows!).

Not saying anything about just a coopers vs. MCS or that you have to have one or the other to be a fan. Just saying that 40 MPG with a tailwind has probably gotten many gas misers on board that could care less what they are driving. Hence the lack of waving?
There are days where as much as I love my MCS, idling in Atlanta traffic and that 40MPG grail makes me wish I'd reigned myself in just a bit 4 months ago.

Perhaps these owners bought used and never learned about the wave? Or their MA (if they bought new, or used off a lot) didn't fill them in?
For some reason, I just have to imagine that every MINI owner loves their MINI and it's not just an appliance to get you from point A to point B.

I got my first wave two days ago ( I've had my 2008 Oxy Blue MC two weeks now ).
I'm lucky enough to have been around sports cars here in the states in the 60's, when a wave was something done without question or thought.
I got to twist a few spanners back then as well.
Today's availability of reliable new "sports" cars in great quantities dilutes that feeling of being "In the know". The club mentality doesn't translate to all owners as it did in the above mentioned 60's. I think the fact that we are no longer twisting those spanners to keep them running has played a role as well. We are no longer that rare bird..
But some of us are still "In the know".

Jeep wrangeler owners are very enthousastic with the wave(that is a good thing ) including the fact that we used to own a jeep but they get very poor gas mileage
