Cooper S engine quieter than Cooper?

I wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this, or if it was just something I mistakenly took away from my test drives of the Cooper and Cooper S:

Is the Cooper S engine quieter overall than the Cooper? Whenever I really wanted to move I had to give the Cooper engine a bit of gas, and the RPMs would go up and it'd get pretty loud. But it seemed like the Cooper S's turbochargers gave it that power without having to raise the RPMs so much so the engine was quieter.

Another bonus of the Cooper, that sweet sounding engine.

Cooper'S' Turbocharger allows an unusual Torque curve, giving a lot of power without need of a lot of RPM's as you mention.

Also, the Turbocharger cools and expands the exhaust gas, allowing a lower 'noise' for that as well.

I think it depends on your driving style. I have not had the same experience in my JustaCooper... and I am not a slow driver.

Perhaps you are more well suited to the turbo of the S?

With the intake and exhaust on mine at idle she sounds stock but hit the gas and she's comes alive!

it´s probably true because turbos use exhaust gases to work, and all that piping notoriously muffles the noise. besides, the S is very quiet, even for a turbo car. (stock)

Why would you want a noisy 1.6 Engine car? if you want to hear a real engine roar get a V8 or something like that

I don't know if it's quieter because it's been forever since I've driven my R50 (RIP :'() but I really love the sound of Ollie in 2nd :D
