Doesn't much matter where it was does it? If it's on a runway or down the 15 freeway does it make it more or less possible? The theoretical top speed for a stock MINI with 05/06 gearing and stock tire size/redline is 163 MPH. Limited by gearing. With an 8250 RPM redline and non-oem tires, and 231 wHP (about 75 over stock) I hit 157 in 6th.

I never put it out as a fact. There was a casual discussion about top speeds, this isn't some outlandish claim like "I hit 195 MPH in my MINI". On a car that arguabley could have kept going to 170 or higher because of an increased redline (1400 over stock) I hit about 90% of it's top speed.

Where did I hit it? On a really long, flat, open, straight piece of pavement. Does that help? Do you want me to pull up GPS Coordinates for ya?

I thought the top speed of the MCS was computer governed at 135? Did you reprogram your computer to get rid of this?

No, there is no limiter to speak of on the R53. Top speed was limited by drag.

And yes, the ECU has been modified (See custom dyno tune).

For what it's worth, the new R56 MINI with the same 8250 redline would be capable of a top speed of over 190 MPH. Of course, in the real world, where drag is an issue, that's impossible.

Stock redline: ~155 MPH gearing limited
8250 Redline: ~190 MPH gearing limited

See the difference revs make?

I hit 100 near midnight on a Jersey highway. What a rush. My MC automatic handled fine, no shaking or rattling or anything. Of couse, my century sedate compared to some of you.

Have cruised at 80 or 85 and one time 90 for a bit on various highways when no one (especially Troopers) in sight. Twas late, with few on the road.

Zipping around twisty curvy rural roads in Jersey and using my paddles is just as much fun and, as gokartride pointed out, within the posted speed limit. So much safer to insure the life of one's driving license.

I had a MCS loaner once, hit 90+ on a highway on the way home before I knew it, I was having so much fun shifting and feeling the turbo surge. Good thing I have MC, for if I had an S, I'd've probably lost my license by now. Speed demonology can be intoxicating.

Still, when I motor in Manhattan I tend to drive like a cabbie, which is where the MINI's superb handling comes into play, and have just as much fun, especially when a passenger in the cabin starts to tense up and push an imaginary brake.

Motor On, and don't get speed-trapped,

At AMVIV this year on the way back from the Death Valley run and the track at Parumph, testing out my new 15% pulley on a slight uphill I was running 125 and still had more left. Stable as a rock with the JCW wing and the PE2s. Haven't run that fast since i had my 7 Series over to the desert.

125 on the speedo of my former 1999 Dodge 1500 Pickup, Rt 2 Central Mass.

140 on the speedo of my 03 525iT (wagon). Did not think I could get here to go that fast. Rt 2 Central Mass. She started to get a little wiggily up at that speed though.

110 on the speedo of my 2008 clubman with 1700 mile on it. also Rt 2 Central Mass but i was limited by traffic that i was coming up on way to fast.

Hope to get both the MiINI and the BMW out out on the track in N.H. or CT some time this summer to see what she can really do. Also want to hit the drag strip in N.H.

132 MPH on Highway 33 on a flat straight section north of Ojai, CA.
115 MPH on the front straight at Streets of Willow Springs (CCW).

Car was fine at 132, I however back off. Had plenty of pavement to go, but my inner old man said "slow down!" Screw that guy....

Streets of Willow, awesome. Can't say that enough, just, awesome.

I almost had my Chevette up to 65 once. But, sadly, the hamster died and I was back down to something a little less insane.

In my new Mini, 80mph. Still breaking him in S L O W L Y.

2002, BMW R1150RT on the Autobahn out of Munich - 250kph = 155.35mph. Had several cars blow by like I was in reverse!

I am quite surprised this thread hasn't been targeted for termination yet. Let it roll, let it roll.

Just for kicks btw, I ran some math calculations. For the R56 to actually get up to it's theoretical gearing limited top speed of 190 MPH (with the 8250 redline I previously spoke of) it would need about 460 bhp.

To give you an idea of just how exponential the growth relationship between HP/Speed is, to get to 155 MPH (It's theoretical stock rev limit top speed) would require about 250 bhp. Yes, you read right, 210 HP to go 35 MPH faster.

I know that people drive above the posted legal limit at times. We ask that if you really want to wring out your car that you take it to the track and not be a risk to other innocent people on the street. When you go from I had to pass someone and got up to 80 that's one thing. Saying that you were racing someone on the site or I wanted to see what my top speed was in my MINI and hit 156 is another thing. The latter is what gets threads removed.

Just for the record the fastest I've gone is only 100...but that was in a shifter kart so it felt like 200

If you're making reference to my post, I never said I did it on the street. There are plenty of legal venues for top speed in a car. To make a blanket assumption that everyone that has gone faster than 90 MPH did so illegally is just silly.

I understand the site guidelines and haven't violated them with my post. Trust me, I've been slapped on the wrist enough times to know where to go and where not to.

fasted got the MINI to is 180 kph...so far....the dial goes to 240...

the fastest i have felt is 90mph through the forest in a FWD VW Golf rally car as i was navigator for a race for a friend.....trees 1 foot from your windows give you a real sense of speed.

I've only gone close to 110MPH...

Empty freeway late late at night

Funny story

A couple weeks ago after prom, I noticed it was close to 1:30AM and I had to jet home. I thought I knew the strip of freeway like the back of my hand + it was pretty empty (only two other cars for about a mile or two) so I decided to speed up a little bit. I was going about 91 on the speedo (so around 88ish?) and noticed a car pull out of an exit. Freaked out for a little bit, but then a WRX STi BLEW past me doing at least 110 and nothing from the mystery car. I figured, it CANT be a cop. No one in their right mind would follow a MINI after witnissing that. As I'm coming towards my exit a vette zooms by going about 9X, the mystery car pulling out with me. That calmed me down some. I get to the red light and all of a sudden "whoop whooop"

Needless to say. I stay at or 5mph above any limits.

I would LOVE to see that officer again and thank him for the lovely graduation present.

140 In a '75 Ranchero (no, it was not stock) when I was 16. It felt really, really terrifying. Like the truck was gonna simultaneously fly and fall apart. Taught me if I was gonna go fast, anywhere, we were going to need to work on more than the engine.

I am glad the Mini felt much, much better at 135. In the Ranchero, I was totally nuts. In the Mini I was tired of the cat and mouse game in the fast lane with the other car, and wanted to be done with them.

V1 owner here, same class as the escorts. Get a permanent power cord. The one ticket I've had since getting it, 80 in a 60, the cop said that he paced me and left the gun off because he saw the cord hanging down.

Ew that sucks!!! Once they get their eyes locked on one person, doesn't really matter what anyone else is doing it seems...

Are you serious with this? lol, the posted speed limit on highways here IS 75. Therefore, people travel 80-90. And those of us that are faster than most, go above that.

I remember a few years ago there was a proposal to increase the speed limit to 80 mph. It didn't pass though
