OVERDRIVE
In the Mini maybe 100mph for a few moments. The "thrill" of going fast on a deserted stretch of AZ backroad lies is looking at the speedo and thinking what bad stuff could happen if the thing came unglued. Viscerally it's no different than going 75. Best visceral thrill: shifter cart at Bondurant School of Driving (Phx). There's no comparison. Don't even mention Porche, Ferrari, M3 on the track. not even close, trust me.

JCW hard to keep at speed limits
I sure admire the post regarding staying within speed limits...I just can't do it with my JCW...hits 60 by 3d gear and seems to be most comfortable going 80-85MPH on the MINI speedo (which is actually 5MPH less according to my GPS). Fastest ever was 110MPH not long after break-in period
and there was more there but lost nerve since Virginia had recently passed an "abusive driver" law i that would've meant a VERY stiff fine for going more than 15MPH over limit...something like $3000. As much fun as I was having, it was not worth that much!

Hey Blimey! Why isn't anyone agreeing with you? Your very first post was in direct reference to high speeds on the Autobahn and out West (Montana's????). The posts you were referring to were post's about speeds well over 100mph. Thus, you were justifying speeds (or trying to) over 100+ mph.
Your newest attempt to justify it further is even weaker. So now your one of those guys who thinks he has superior driving skills. So what are your qualifications Mario? SCCA? NASA? PCA? BMWCCA? Skip Barber? HPDE's? Anything? 1/2 million miles on the roads doesn't cut it. How old are you anyway? I'm 35 and have over a million miles of driving experience on the road's and highways. That never taught me any car control, or helped me find the limits of a car, only how to avoid a lot of bad drivers who are out there. Getting my racing liscense through the SCCA did teach me the limits and helped me learn a much higher level of car control and I still have more to learn. I never try to learn on the public roads. It's stupidity at it's finest, highest level. You let me know when that high speed wreck happens, I'll send you a card.

The fastest I've gone is just north of 100 mph. The MCS is quick accelerating up to 100 mph. Beyond that it it drops off. I had a 2003 330i zhp which felt just as quick up to 100 mph. However north of 100 mph the 330i is much quicker.

I've been watching this thread since page 2 where I posted. I do find it irresponsible to drive grossly over the limit on US roads though I also know it happens. In other countries their standards apply and I don't have visibility into what those are.
Given that the talk has now moved from the track to what appears excessive speeds on US roads its time to kill this thread. Next time this comes up and it gets excessive we'll be pulling the thread altogether and giving those involved a break from posting action.
