man, i didnt get anything thrown in..but i did end up ordering my car 2 of those dealerships markup 2K over MSRP!! the one from concord didnt markup and the service was MUCH nicer so even though its 25 more miles away.....they had better customer service which won me over.

We went to 3 different dealerships (mountain view, pleasanton, and concord california) in ONE day (theyre far away from each other) and came back to the concord one to order........im week 28.

im excited!

Same here. My dealer has a total of 31 minis/mcs/clubmans in stock and not one has the options I want.

This topic and variations of it consternate me. If anyone has been around NAM longer than a month or two they will notice that there is some variation in general pricing/availability depending on your locale. "Negotiating" depends directly on availability not your superior skillset. Houston has two MINI dealers, both are running through their allotments like there's no tomorrow. If anyone claims to have gotten one for less than MSRP in Houston, I'd like to see the purchase order and the extenuating circumstances that dictated it. There's just no reason for them to discount from MSRP when they sell all their cars every month. It's common knowledge that there are still dealers in California charging over MSRP, I'm quite sure there are smaller markets around the country that don't sell all of their allotment, earlier in this thread someone mentioned a dealer that still had '07's on their lot. Those will likely deal, they have the incentive to get their inventory moving. You as an individual need to decide how much a discount is worth to you. For me, flying or driving across the country to save $500-1200 and then being treated as a pariah by my local dealer just isn't worth it. Your mileage may vary, but the poster who called people stupid for paying MSRP, and the others who insist you can ALWAYS negotiate are just clouding the issue.

You have hit upon the potential for problems in closing the deal that anyone trading will have...I am in this situation now too.

With 6-8 weeks out on an ordered car, the dealer will not guarantee your trade-in value and thus has some final leverage in the closing.

Hard to deal with. My deliver date is coming up...hope it goes well with no "squeeze".

No guarantee because the market is so dynamic. If in 6 weeks gas hits $5 a gallon the market for used gas guzzlers may be non-existent! Hence, a dealer would be foolish to offer any kind of guarantee. My guess is that we are in a car market like nothing we've ever seen before. I just ordered a mini to replace my Toyota Tacoma truck that gets 22 / 17 mpg. I am gambling that the truck will still be marketable in 6 - 8 weeks or whenever the mini arrives. I can still cover the cost of the new mini but would like to offset that cost by selling the truck. We shall see....
