Fast production or what??
We ordered our MINI on 5-31-08 at Atlanta Mini and according to 1-866-ask-mini it is in the paint shop and is scheduled for completion tomorrow, 6-9-08! Is that some kind of record or no? How long after completion do you figure we have to wait before we have it in our greedy little hands?

Hey, that's great news!!! It seems some folks' order hits just right with the dealer's allocation to where they can get right into production. Sometimes they then have to wait for a ship, but sometimes not...it depends. Keep checking, once the ship sets sail the timetable seems to be fairly predictable.

7 days from entering production to rolling off the factory line is pretty standard. Most of the wait lies in waiting for it to load onto a ship and the time it takes for the ship to get overseas (about 1-2 weeks), and the time it takes from being unloaded and sent to the from VDC, and then to your dealership (depends on how far your dealership is from the VDC, could be another 3-5 weeks). There are VDCs in California, NJ, and South Carolina.
Overall I think 3-6 weeks from end production is the wait most folks are looking at.

the long wait
ordered mine may 10th - it was completed and at the port on June 5th and still waiting to board a ship. Dealership in Mentor Ohio is saying it will be mid July before i get it?? makes no sense to me...does it really take that long??? or could it already be in transit and the dealer is unaware??? any info would be great...

Placed my order on 5/30
Will be completed by 6/10, per the automated attendant. I guess that means maybe sometime around the end of the month, to the first week of July to take delivery. This assumes 1-2 weeks shipping, and another week or two for state-side prep and delivery.
I wasn't able to catch my order in time to add rear fog lamps or LSD, but those were "nice-to-haves" for me anyhow. I bet I can order a set of fogs in a year or so (when they are more common in the aftermarket) and wire them myself, and I don't plan on racing it, which the dealer told me LSD was best and most commonly used for.

what dealership in OHIO are you working with. Mine was ordered on May 10th - completed June 5th and said to be coming into Charleston on June 19th. The dealer says to expect car by beginning of July and no later that the second week of July. seems like an awful long time to get to Mentor Ohio...

It depends on how many orders the dealer has. Each dealer only has a certain allotment of MINIs, some Coopers, some Cooper-S etc. If they have 10 a month and 40 orders, you'll be waiting 3-4 months.
Shawn's order was the fastest we've ever had. We ordered on a Friday (April 4) and he was in production by the Sunday, and completed on the 14th. He then missed a boat, waited 2 weeks for another one and was delivered to the dealer on the Saturday of the Memorial day weekend, so we couldn't get our hands on him until the next Wednesday. Those delays were frustrating.
