Long time Mac user. Went to college in the Bay Area with a Classic or Classic II or something like that. Coveted the first Powerbooks but couldn't afford one. As a teacher, I saw the strong early push by Apple in to the education market (too bad it didn't last). Later, with more disposable income, I bought a Pismo Powerbook, a lampshade iMac, and a flat panel iMac. A few ipods later, and an iphone, I guess you would say I'm hooked. My wife, a PC oriented software engineer, simply asks if I want the latest iGottahaveit. I just like things that work.

Strangely, I also lusted for and got a MINI.

So far, so good though.

No kidding?!! I was a Conflict Catcher user for years. That was some good stuff. So I helped buy your MINI eh?

My first Mac was a Mac Plus and I've had (and still do have) multiple Macs.
As a graphic artist they have always been the thing to use. And with a lot of RAM, life is good.

I can somewhat see the Apple/MINI correlation. Although I think Apple would be more restrictive on customizations. They would offer fewer choices and make it hard for 3rd parties to get involved. They want the experience of what they offer to be dictated by their aesthetic and mindset. I guess their car would be a lot more like the MINI stereo unit in the R56. You get what we offer and there's no way to change it. And believe me, no checkered roof on an Apple car!

No Apple here.
I have two laptops fired up right now.
One's my office IBM and the second is my Dell.
XP on both.

It depends on what you plan to use it for and how much you value the form factor vs the sacrifices and price, like compared to the regular macbook or pro. Other than form, the thing it does have over the regular macbook is the LED screen. It really depends on the individual.

I don't think there was any confirmation by either party, but there was this thing a while back:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/16/i...oped-by-apple/
and there's been rumors for years about them designing head units in general.

As for myself, I've been a mac user for over 20 years (out of 26 possible). I don't miss the old days, other than a few random apps like Lunatic Fringe and the Gerbils! QD3D game.

I think it's worth the price *if* you fit into the small niche that the laptop was designed for, and if low weight is your primary concern. We considered one for my wife, but she uses an optical drive every day, so carting the external drive along everywhere negates some of the weight/size savings. A MacBook ended up being a better choice for her. I do a lot of video/photo editing, and use Firewire 400/800 drives every day, so I went with the MacBook Pro for the extra horsepower and ports.

Also, even though the Air is *very* slim and light, it has the same footprint as the MacBook (114 square inches), so it doesn't take up any less space on a desk or an airplane tray table than a MacBook.

I've used apples since the tiny 9" black white CRT. I'm now sitting in front of a 20" widescreen LCD in a new 2.6 GHz i-mac. Never own anything else again, mini or apple.

If Apple made a car... it might be a MINI but also maybe a Smartcar.

I'm a longtime Mac User since 1985.

I've had many and networked as many as 12 at home.

Today still have in the closet:
Original 128K Mac
Working Mac Plus
20th Anniversary Mac
and many more.
Got 20" iMacs upstairs and down (totally different models)
Newest from last week- an Airbook and MacBook

Crystal Quest- A great game. I still have it on floppy.

I assume from the title of this thread that the original poster is referring to the classic piece: 'If Microsoft Made Cars' . This is from the late '80's I believe, so some people here may not have heard of it...so here it is:

If Microsoft made Cars

1. A particular model year of car wouldn't be available until AFTER that year, instead of before.

2. Every time they repainted the lines on the road, you'd have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would just die for no reason, you'd have to restart it. For some strange reason, you would just accept this.

4. You could only have one person at a time in your car, unless you bought a car '95 or a car NT, but then you'd have to buy more seats.

5. You would be constantly pressured to upgrade your car. Wait a sec, it's that way NOW!

6. Sun Motorsystems would make a car that was solar powered, twice as reliable, 5 times as fast, but only ran on 5% of the roads.

7. The oil, alternator, gas, engine warning lights would be replaced with a single "General Car Fault" warning light.

8. People would get excited about the "new" features in Microsoft cars, forgetting completely that they had been available in other brands for years.

9. We would still be waiting on the "6000 sux 58'" model to come out.

10. We'd all have to switch to Microsoft Gas (tm).

11. Lee Iacocca would be hired-on as Bill G.'s chauffeur.

12. The US government would be GETTING subsidies from an automaker, instead of giving them.

13. New seats will force everyone to have the same size ***.

14. Ford, General Motors and Chrysler would all be complaining because Microsoft was putting a radio in all its models.

I tried to get a 20th Anniversary Mac back in the day when they had the price drop, but it didn't work out. I sure loved that computer. I ended up waiting and getting the Original iMac when it came out. Is your 20th still in proper working order?

Started on a Apple ][. Not a ][+, just a ][. Sold it a few years ago to a hard-core nerd who just about wargasmed when we handed it over.

Been into Macs since the first model. Loved them then for jumping into the whole discount-for-students concept.

Married a graphic designer; it because a Mac household right then and there.

Have 3 Mac now, looking to buy another one this summer.

Does AppleTV count as a computer? It probably should. Might pick up one of those, too. I love my Popcorn Hour, but I think an AppleTV would probably integrate better for the family.

Writing this on a PowerBook G4 Titanium right now. That's right -- kicking it old school. Just can't beat that 667 MHz.

Apple from all the way back. Right now I have a 17" Macbook Pro, iTouch and of course Airport.

Years ago I needed Windows for a project at work and got VirtualPC - ironically Windows always ran better on the Mac than a PC.

So were you the dancer or the Sandy referenced within the article?

... And to keep things on track... I've got a Macbook Pro and successfully petitioned the University I work for to add Macs to the general computer lab. Also plan to install a Mac Mini in my MINI when it arrives

I think I was one of the fist to have the macbook air ...but had to get a desk top because of my back...I really think the Mini is what Apple would make in a car......

With the R56, I'd say it's more towards what Apple would make.

Increased aesthetics, proprietary radio unit, runs a little hot (my MBP is scalding at times), compact...

Yep, sounds like Apple.
