Ok I'm quite new here (I have my MCS since less than a month) and I come from VWvortex so it's not exactly the same thing.. BUT is it just me or people over here talk a little bit too much about gas milleage and the color of their car and not enough about performance?
I don't say that I've read all the post so far, but where are the big project going on? I don't care if it's performance wise or more esthetical than anything, but I mean, I need to see something different
Yes, snoop around and I think you'll find plenty to interest you. MINIs attract a pretty wide group of enthusiasts (a plus, not a negative), but once you find your niche you can ignore the rest if you choose.
Sorry, but this place is waaay different then the tex. Bigger, more diverse mix here, not alot of big time mods going on for the 2ng gen yet, first gen though there is a fair amount of modifications. The majority here though are not mechanically inclined, and tend to stick on the warranty safe side.
Yes, It seems the talk is more about what color your getting and if you got anything free from the dealer. I would like to see more performance talk also.
I used to own a Jetta, and quite honestly, a Jetta is a Jetta. They're decent cars, but in the end, they don't cause people to turn their heads or give you a thumbs up, etc. Whereas MINI's are loved by all kinds of people, owners and non-owners alike. People don't daydream about owning a Jetta, but lots of people (including myself less than a year ago) dream about some day owning a MINI. Consequently, the MINIverse is going to be peopled by a lot broader culture than the Jettasystem (if you get my drift).
I have thousands of post on Vortex/Fourtitude, Audiworld, NASIOC, and a few other enthusiast sites, I'm refreshed by the lack of performance orientated posts. I actually find this site to have a bit more of a mature feel,(especially over Vortex) and in part its because not every discussion is my chip is better than yours, and or who has the best 1/4 mile time. As much as I spent most of my 20s modding my cars, I'm kind of growing out of it (now in my mid 30s), even if my car is still my obsession.
