R56 Third party OBC mod?

Third party OBC mod?
I want to customize the selection in the tachometer to show the digital speed output and right above the odometer would be the 'average miles per gallon'.
Currently, the digital speed setting will have the 'current temperature' above the odometer.
I had tested keeping the setting on 'average miles per gallon' and looking right at the center speedometer to catch the speed I'm going, but quite often, things are happening or soon to happen left of me and it's a bit annoying looking everywhere.
I asked my SA this question and he said it could not be done. Hopefully someone had created a hack/mod for it. Anyone have any insight?

You can get a ScanGaugeII that will display four readouts from the OBC. I have mine set for mpg, mph, coolant temp, and boost (absolute manifold pressure). There are lots of other things you can choose to display. The only things it seems to lack are oil temp and pressure. I have mine sitting on top of the dash with Velcro. Plugs into the OBDII port under the dash. Easy to remove when taking the car in for service.

Sorry, don't have any photos. I make a little wedge of hardwood to tilt the angle up, and have it near the edge of the top of the dash, to the right of the steering wheel. Cable just runs down the front of the dash to the left of the wheel column and Velcro under the dash holds the excess cable in a coil. It isn't in the way and is easy to remove.
Some people mount in the cubby of the center stack, but IMO, that is too far from your driving line of sight.
