Sorry, Porsche drivers (and all sports cars of the era) have been doing it ever since 356 days. Production started in '48. Originally it was one sports car to another, then those of the same marque. It started when young men came back from WWII, with visions of those funny furrin' cars. After all, American cars of the 40's and 50's weren't exactly known for their nimble qualities.

True story--I was driving my MINI from Florida to Texas last fall, and took some back roads. Somewhere along the way I was following a state highway that took quite a few turns in each burg. At one point there were literally 12+ highway numbers on one sign entering a large town, with arrows pointing in various directions. I was pretty occupied following my road when I heard a Corvette next to me race his engine every time he pulled up along side me, through lots of lights and traffic. Did he really think I was going to take the bait? Nah, I was way too busy! Besides, that's a sure way to meet The Law. I didn't even make eye contact.

Dude, were you in your full "Tour de France" roadie gear? He may have been afraid you were trying to pick him up.

Nice Allez. But I disagree. You had him totally intimidated with your ride.

Last weekend my GF and I went to vermont for vacation.

We Followed a Porsche Carrera 4S on the highway, he gave us a thumbs up and waved at us. A guy in a 993 stopped and talked to us.
A guy with a totally mint E39 M5 stopped in a parking and started a conversation about the Cooper S and checked it out.

Though, in my experience when you drive a Euro Car, you get respect from other Euro-car owners.

Even if your not in a car, most of the time someone will appreciate "Nice Car"
Some people think they are better than others though...sadly

You can pull off higher than that in a Z06. The milage is great for a 500+ hp car.

Along with my week-old Cooper S, I own a C3 chrome bumper vert. I have found that C6 drivers as a group wave far less than older model Vette owners.
I own my Vette because of the heritage, I suspect that some C6 owners bought because of the status and are not aware of that heritage or the traditions. They may or may not learn, or even care.

However, I have been getting waves and light flashes from Cooper owners this past week.

On a similar note, I was cycling a few weeks ago and pulled alongside a Ferrari F430 convertible. I asked him to "give it some gas" so I could hear the music. He smiled and took off like a bat. Now there's an engine note! Conclusion based on solid research: Ferrari drivers are nicer than Corvette drivers.

Was it a slushbox? Not 100% true but if it was a Vette with a slushbox you were likely not dealing with an enthusiast. They sell like 35,000 of the things a year so they sell to a wide variety of people. The "car guy/gal" Corvette people are wonderful but like BMW's and other more expensive cars there are some owners that think the car makes them cool or something....

BUT, given you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a C6 these days, and you can buy one with the Z51 package for $45k, and lightly used C5's/C6's all day for $25k - $40k, I don't see any "snob factor" with Corvettes at all.

I really like the C6 but I've got to say if I was getting ready to burden my wallet I'd likely wind up with a Cayman instead...

Not sure why I shot this vid on the way to The Dragon I believe, but it's come in handy often lately.

In defense of the Corvette faithful, I once read the BEST QUOTE EVER on a Corvette forum in regards to getting the "mid life crisis" comment (Miata owners get this comment a lot too).

It went something to the effect of, "whenever people see my Corvette and ask me if I'm having a mid-life crisis, I tell them I didn't want to die with the keys to a Buick in my pocket"

I see so many MINI's on the road that I am to the point where I just ignore them and not wave. Sometimes it's like a western dual. We just stare until the last moment and if the other person draws(wave) I draw(wave) too. Often, I see the other person just staring at me and not wave as we pass by and I don't wave.
