Mileage range very optimistic?

Has anyone else found this? Mine seems to assume I can get 480~500 miles on a tank. I now have 4 candy corns lit, 368miles driven, and a range estimate of 131 miles. All the way through this tank and the last, it seems to maintain this offset. (I reset after each fill)

Last tank fill was at 2 candy corns lit, 12.3 gallons put in, leaving roughly 1.5 gallons (~45miles), but the range displayed was nearly 80 miles.

Can you disable this display, by the way? I would rather do without this kind of misinformation.

I don't yet have in possession my Mini, but I hate to say that a lot of gas tank readers out there are bunk. Just use them as a rough estimate... you shouldn't be trying to eek out every last drop of gas before filling up anyways.

If you don't want to see the milage display in the tach just push the end of your turn indicator stalk and it will change the display.I prefer the speed display.

Maybe you shouldn't reset it every time you fill up. I used to do that and I was getting numbers all over the place like you. I now don't reset and the range is more reasonable since it took the average of all the mpg's, which reflects my driving patterns.

Yeah, the OBC's miles until empty estimate is optimistic. The emptier the tank gets the more accurate it is (imagine that!). After driving my car for a year and figuring mpg with a calculator, the OBC, city, highway, I can tell you 2 things: the mpg estimate on the original windowsticker is very accurate, and the OBC is less then .5mpg lower than my calculator.

I notice my computer reading mpg is way off.

No, I have not really done it by hand yet.

But the computer is always in the 32-33 range.

I've been driving in manual mode and I'm certain
I'm at or above 40 mpg.

Even if I reset, it will be 45 for a while.
then 40. then 35. then, the steadfast 32.x.

I find this very disturbing.

And what was the "official" estimate of mpg for the MCa? In town I bet it was 32-33 mpg (what your OBC says). There's no way you get 40mpg in town in that car. I stand by what I said in my prior post. If you don't beleive it calculate it yourself for a couple of months like I did.

the capacity is not 13.9 gal. It is more like 14.9 gal. Now, redo the math.
