2008 Gas Tank

Just wanted to mention that the 2008 brochure reads the MC with 10.6 gallon tank and the MCS with 13.2 gallon tank. Today was my first fill up on my MC and it took 12.9. I know I know don't let it get that low, but I was wanting to know how big the tank was.

Very excited though. 468 miles on a tank of town and highway. YEAH!!
Average was 36.3 mpg. How sweet is the Mini!!

why did the brochure say 10.6 gal? It makes me think the gas pump charged you for 12.9 gal when you only pumped 10 gal??

The brochure is incorrect. They are both 13.2.....

some people have been able to put in more than 13.2gallons however so there is some speculation that perhaps it is actually 13.2gallons + reserve. to date I've only been able to put in a max of 12.68gallons in my MCS.

Very Funny--- I doubt the pump was wrong. Possible, maybe.
Brochure - Miss print I guess.

The 13 gallon was made standard on 07+ MC and MCS. Must have been after the brochures were printed.

Good thing, too. Love the range between fills on this thing.

I have 2008 MCS. I drove my car until the OBC said I only have 3 miles range left. Pulled Mobil gas station, filled it all the way up and it took 14.5 gallons.

(Maybe there's a 2-gallon reserve tank)

It must be a misprint as I remember reading the 10.6 number somewhere as well -- possibly even in different sections of the owner's manual? I haven't gone back to check. Definitely more than 10.6 ga though.

They do underestimate the total capacity of the fuel tank.I have put in more then the 13.2 gallons of gas when filling up my '08 MCSa.Someone asked the fuel tank capacity question in the OL and was told that the filler neck can hold an additional gallon of gas.

So, if we find a gas station with the straight nozzle (not that vapor recirc housing) on a sloping ramp and put the fuel port uphill and pump until it is full up to the spring port, how much do you suppose we can shove in there?

Oh yeah, on a cold morning.

This hits the nail on the head and is a true statement!

I put 14.25 gallons in last fill-up. OBC read about 5 miles-to-empty.
By the way, the OBC is pretty accurate in estimating remaining driving range until it gets under about 50 miles, then it sinks like a rock. I guess when there's only a little gas left in the tank it's harder to get an accurate reading.
I don't make it a habit of driving until the tank's nearly empty, and I'm sure not going to trust the OBC below about 50 miles.
One more thing, a cold or a hot morning will have little effect on the amount of gas you can put in your tank. Underground tanks keep gas at a pretty constant temperature, and the expansion of liquid gasoline over a narrow temperature range is negligible.

Weird thing - when it came down to deciding between the MC and the MCS, the reported smaller tank counted against the MC for me. I was really hoping to get great range with the Cooper, and I was disappointed to hear it had a smaller tank. Had it I known that wasn't true.. maybe...

Nah....

Yeah, word on the street is that it holds 14.2 gallons, maybe a little more if you force it up the filler neck.

Don't run your tanks dry, folks, you risk damaging your fuel pump. They're $291 from my dealer, plus T&M to conduct the R&R. My dealer charges $109/hour, which may be cheaper than yours.

I recall reading that the miles-to-empty value is calculated from your mileage over your previous 30KM (18 miles), and fuel tank level. The latter leaves something to be desired.

I've also seen reports of people running out of gas when the value was showing more than 50 miles-to-empty.

I start looking for a fill when I reach only 5 candy corns left. At that point, a fill is about 10 gallons. At two candy corns, fills are typically 11-12 gallons.

Because the web site was designed based on the same, incorrect information as in the brochure, and no one's corrected it yet.

Well, if the 13.2 gal was measured in Imperial gallons, that would equal a shade over 15.85 gallons U.S.

Yikes! 700m/40mpg = 17.5 gallons. You must REALLY have a velvetfoot. Are you one of those hypermileage types?

wow, what he/she said(lol), and i thought i drove lightly. i figured that each "candy corn" is 1.32 gallons, i dont let it get down past half a tank anyways, it makes sense, i ususally round up tho, at half its supposdly 6.6 gallons so i go to 7, it fills the guage, and it says lit for a while, but this is usually when i get on the highway. i thought id be cool if the little gas station thingy would turn green when its full, other than that you dont know, i've filled sometimes and then the first candy corn dims when i thought it should have lasted longer. also itd be cool if each of the guage's candy corns "faded" from full to empty and then moved on to the next one insted of just dimming. also i figured it takes $5.61 to fill one bar at $4.25 a gallon.

I call them petals, but I spent a little effort to work out what each one means, at least for Tristan (using the ScanguageII which gives a readout of fuel used). I did it in Litres, figuring that it was probably designed by people used to Litres.

The first one took about 9l (2.4gal)
The next 3 are 5l (1.32gal) each
The next 3 are 4.5l (1.2gal) each
The next one is 4l (1gal).

I usually start looking for a fillup when I get to the last 2 and he starts to get insistant about it.
