My seats creak, do yours?

Hey all, I have 2008 MC with Tuscan beige sport seats. They've been creaking since day one - when I accelerate, decelerate, and corner. Mind you, I'm not driving aggressively, still breaking the car in (800 miles so far).

The creaking sounds like it's coming from underneath the seats, perhaps from the rails. When stationary, I can't get the seats to creak (by leaning back, forward, side to side, etc). The car has to be moving (?).

I've searched the forum for similar posts, but turned up empty. Most of the "creak" threads involve the dash or other parts.

Anyone experience something similar?

Tony

Yep, experience the same thing. The seats creak when slightly accelerating or cornering. I had my dealer take a look at it and they came up with the good ol' "could not replicate problem" excuse.

Me either. I'd get the dealership to look into it. The seats should definitely not creak.

I had the same problem. Sounded like I had a frog in my car on the passenger side. Turns out when I adjusted the passenger seat after vacuuming the back that it wasn't locked in position. The sound was really irritating and I was about to call the dealer to have them look at it. Just on a whim, I sat in the passenger seat and moved it back a bit and the frog went away. Haven't had the problem since. Same thing occurs with the drivers seat when you move it forward to put something in the back seat but I usually locks when you sit in the seat or start driving. Hopefully this helps.

I have the Tuscan Beige interior and my seats creak as well, but perhaps in a different way. I found out that the sound I was hearing was the seat belt "female part" was rubbing against the seat and making a squeaky/creaky noise when I accelerated, decelerated quickly and cornered. Since I know what is making the noise now it does not bother me so much.

You know, I was going to mention my weight, but I forgot to...
I'm 180 pounds at a height of 5'9". Yeah, I'd love to drop about 15 pounds, but I don't think I'm way out of the norm for what these seats are designed for.

Good question, though.

This is great input. As I said, I can't seem to re-create the creak when the car is stationary. Maybe I have something similar going on (?). I'm going to have to take a close look at this.

I'm planning to take my car to the dealer to get my bonnet stripes replaced - they're stained from leaky, acidic washer fluid. I'll ask about the creaky seats as well as the windows that occasionally want to roll down halfway after going "one touch" up.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do appreciate it - even the facetious ones because, well, it keeps the thread alive...

HAHA, I like to kid around alot.

Seems like the one touch 1/2 way up is a common issue across makes. My Jeep keeps doing this as well. See if in your manual you see anything on resetting this feature. Sometimes the window needs to be re calibrated (electronics needs to find/set the upper and lower limits of window travel). It's either that or the motor/regulator is bad.

Now that we got the weight thing out of the way , have someone ride with you so they can pinpoint the source. If its under you, check for a loose bolt. If not that, then spray with WD40 on all hinge and mounting points. Don't get any electrical connectors wet though.

Hopefully that will cure your squeaking. If that doesn't work, drop 20lbs and post back. Here on NAM, not only are we MINI conscience but also health conscience.

My seats are not creaking but the drivers side seat is a movin, back and forth....The backrest has play in it, when sitting its loose. Ive posted about this before I dont know what to do. MINI said they tried everything but he passengerseat is fine solid as a rock.

There's no sound from my Tuscan Beige seats. This might be as simple as the normal movement of a seat spring in it's attachment point, the noise was quite common with original VW Beetles.

Update - I've noticed, that when temperatures are cooler (ie. at night), the creaking goes away, or at least diminishes greatly.

When it's hot out, say 90+ degrees, they creak like crazy.

Seat Creaks

I have the same issue in my R56 2007, with the black sport seat. I can not get it to do it at a stop but cornering and acceleration causes the creak. Would like to find a solution as well.
