We listen to the Italian Job movie soundtrack, if were on run or rallye. Makes you want to go fast, and underground.

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel

It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's half past four and I'm shifting gears

Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free"

It's about spontaneity and going on a journey where you don't know what the outcome will be just for the heck of it. It's about reaching for the stars and sucking the marrow out of life and well... everything that motoring/driving should be about.

There are some really great tunes listed here, thanks to all!

Here's the first tune that will christen my Clubbie:

"Well the moon is on the highway, darkness fills the sky.
As long as I keep driving, I know that I won't die.

And I'm gone, gone, gone.
Gone Ridin'." ~~Chris Isaak

Magic Carpet Ride: It's about tripping.
Try "Born To Be Wild" instead. That's a driving song.

My all time favorite INXS song. This board could use some of it's wisdom in their discussions of MC vs MCS, "Though all are different all are great"

When I used to go on road trips with my sons the tradition was to open up all the windows in the driveway and crank Steppenwolf,Born to be Wild on full blast as I shot out and up the hill in front of our house. The Driv'n Music playlist currently includes:

James Taylor Traffic Jam
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Steppenwolf - Born to Be Wild
Beach Boys - Little Duece Coupe
Ram Jam - Black Betty
The Rolling Stones - Driving Too Fast
The Cars - Good Times Roll
Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Good
Chuck Berry - No Particular Place to Go
George Thorogood and The Destroyers - Bad to the Bone
Led Zepplin - Immigrant Song
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Takin' Care of Business
Doobie Brothers - Rockin' Down the Highway
AC/DC - Stiff Upper Lip
Modest Mouse - Float On
Queen - Another One Bites the Dust
Dave Clark Five - Catch Us if You Can
Beach Boys - I Get Around
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now
The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright
Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55
Timo Maas - To Get Down
Billy Idol - White Wedding

In Canada it's legal to download but not upload. However, they put a special tax on mp3 players and the like that they distribute to artists.

However, here in the US even 'just downloading' is illegal and they have started to prosecute people for it. You're essentially receiving stolen property.

"Writing for a unanimous panel, Judge Easterbrook rules that downloads off of P2P are not the same as time-shifting copies recorded off of television and should not be a fair use: A copy downloaded, played, and retained on one’s hard drive for future use is a direct substitute for a purchased copy—and without the benefit of the license fee paid to the broadcaster."

This was ruled on in the following case: BMG Music v. Gonzalez, No. 05-1314 (Dec. 9, 2005).

It is illegal to download and to distribute copyrighted materials for which you do not hold the copyright without the specific permission of the copyright holder. So if you didn't ask Britney Spears before you downloaded that mp3 of "Oops I Did It Again." for free, you broke the law.

As of yet, the RIAA has not prosecuted downloaders because it is easier to track and to get large judgments against distributors because they tend to move a lot of files and paint themselves with big targets, but now that the number of distributors is starting to thin out, I suspect you will see them begin targeting downloaders as well.

To make a long story short, just because they haven't taken anyone to court for it yet, does not mean that it's legal.

Yeah man! I love that scene where he's fumbling around looking for the disc and Riker's sitting there going, "Abort! Abort!" Then he smiles and pulls this weird little crystal out and says, "Nevermind, I found it" and you just know Riker was thinking this was something important to the calculations for the first ever warp jump, and then Cochran cranks up the volume... *giggle*

One of the best moments in all of star trek!

Oh man... I totally let my inner geek out on this post...

+1 to Radar Love by Golden Earring. Blasting down the highway with my windows down in my first car - can't ever forget that feeling.

But did love that Chris Isaak tune, and was surprisingly one I didn't have.

Other faves:
Born to Run and Thunder Road - Springsteen
Born to Be Wild AND Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf
Good Times Bad Times, Ramble On, Whole Lotta Love - Zeppelin
anything by The Devil Makes Three (zippy bluegrass)
