Rollercoaster? HA, those things are for children!

I live in LA, and just about 15 minutes from my house is the start to the Santa Monica Mountains. I usually start on Topanga Canyon and then work my back through the canyons. I know it's not just one road.. but its hard to pick ONE of those that is the best.. besides, they are all connected!

If you live in Texas, you need to drive the road between Vanderpool and Leakey, in the Hill Country. I have heard it called "The Devil's Backbone", and if so it lives up to it. Not a fast road, but not too many straight lines either, just twisties. Lots of fun, and when you get to the end you can drive down to Gardner State Park and float in the Frio River and relax!

Tuna Canyon - downhill 1 way - or Latigo Canyon going north - or Decker Canyon either direction - or Piuma Road - it is tough!!

Oh, and a drive I miss sorely... 140 from Merced to Mariposa, on to Yosemite Nat'l Park, back down 41 to Oakhurst.

the road you want to try is the "going to the sun" road. it goes west where your "A" point is on the map into Glacier national park. the road is incredible.

Here in Florida we have this great road that is 318 miles long with 11 curves. I always take this road on my way home from the Dragon.

ROAD HERE

And then afterward, I cry.

Here is an excellent website designed for motorcyclists but also excellent for any sportscar drivers looking for a nice twisty road.

Just click on the state that you seek information for then click on the area of that state to narrow down your objective.

I love the Dragon and all the history and tradition that goes with it. But it is a very technical road that doesn't allow much for enjoying the scenery, especially if you're in a cabrio when the scenery surrounds you. I have become more fond of the Cherohala, the Foothills Parkway and other neighboring roads for that reason. Less traffic, less Leos and a lot of fun.

Thats precisely why I like Hwy 421 in TN/NC. There is virtually no traffic, no police or anything like that. The scenery is spectacular, and you can drive at your own pace if you want to view the scenery or if you want to have a spirited drive as there is hardly anyone pushing you go go faster than you want to. The only problems is that there are no cool touristy places, and not really anywhere to stop and eat or hang out

No my friend you are so mistaken. Going to the sun road is lovely if you like to drive at about 50km/h (what is that about 25mph?) That road is lovely to look at but there is so much traffic and so much stoppage that it is not the kind of road I am looking for. The road south of St. Mary is never driven by anyone because everyone takes the pass. It is very windy and empty.

It's hard to post a favorite when there are so many. I always end up plugging the Pashnit site. Those are my favorites.

Although if I had to pick one, Little Tijunga in So Cal might be it.

In the SF bay area, Page Mill Road between Palo Alto and Skyline (Hwy 35) is narrow, scenic, twisty and hilly. I especially like it because 35mph, the speed limit, is about as fast as you can safely go in much of it.
