R56 The best road ever!

Rollercoaster? HA, those things are for children!
I live in LA, and just about 15 minutes from my house is the start to the Santa Monica Mountains. I usually start on Topanga Canyon and then work my back through the canyons. I know it's not just one road.. but its hard to pick ONE of those that is the best.. besides, they are all connected!

If you live in Texas, you need to drive the road between Vanderpool and Leakey, in the Hill Country. I have heard it called "The Devil's Backbone", and if so it lives up to it. Not a fast road, but not too many straight lines either, just twisties. Lots of fun, and when you get to the end you can drive down to Gardner State Park and float in the Frio River and relax!

Tuna Canyon - downhill 1 way - or Latigo Canyon going north - or Decker Canyon either direction - or Piuma Road - it is tough!!

We try to get to NC a couple of times a year and my sons favorite stretch of road is N Pilot **** Rd. in Denver!
He knows when we make that right he'll be having "the best Philly Beefsteak Sandwich in the World" at Safari Miles. Mike has become one of his best friends!

the road you want to try is the "going to the sun" road. it goes west where your "A" point is on the map into Glacier national park. the road is incredible.

Here is an excellent website designed for motorcyclists but also excellent for any sportscar drivers looking for a nice twisty road.
Just click on the state that you seek information for then click on the area of that state to narrow down your objective.

I love the Dragon and all the history and tradition that goes with it. But it is a very technical road that doesn't allow much for enjoying the scenery, especially if you're in a cabrio when the scenery surrounds you. I have become more fond of the Cherohala, the Foothills Parkway and other neighboring roads for that reason. Less traffic, less Leos and a lot of fun.

Thats precisely why I like Hwy 421 in TN/NC. There is virtually no traffic, no police or anything like that. The scenery is spectacular, and you can drive at your own pace if you want to view the scenery or if you want to have a spirited drive as there is hardly anyone pushing you go go faster than you want to. The only problems is that there are no cool touristy places, and not really anywhere to stop and eat or hang out
