I didn't get the sunroof for a few reasons:

1. Couldn't justify spending the extra $1200
2. Its always sunny in San Diego
3. I thought the MINI just looked nicer without one

We'll see if I made the right choice in about a month

My first car was a Triumph Spitfire. (Obviously a convertible) Convertible, sun beating on you, that's the way it should be with that type of car.

Being in a car, with a roof, with the sun coming in on my head, well, that just doesn't feel right to me. At all.

So no sunroof.

But that's me, we are all different.

I usually don't like sunroofs because they take up space where I'd like my head to be. On the MINI there's about 4 inches of extra headroom, so I could have got one if I'd wanted, but I didn't. I can probably find lots of reason why I don't want one, like sun and being in airconditioned comfort with filtered air.

no sunroof = no fun

It just opens up the whole interior.

Its like battle of the threads here on NAM tonight! Ok on one corner we have Sunroof Lovers, on the other Corner we have Sunroof Haters!! Battle it out!! Last one breathing..... WINS!!!

Ha ha im just kidding i know you guys dont hate sunroofs you are just content w/o them and proud that u didnt spend the extra grand to get one.

Personally in every car that i have been in that has a sunroof, i dont even notice it b/c the owner never opens it up. Which is why i am a no go on the sunroof. Money in the bank! kinda

The thing is, especially with the dual pane, is it doesn't have to be open to be in "use" it changes the whole interior of the car and opens it up, it just makes it so much nicer (IMHO), like an all weather convertable (without the storage problems), the opening part is just a bonus. I would have spent the money even if it didn't open up.

Leicaguy,
I agree. I've had five BMW 5 Series and three of them developed sunroof problems. I have one sitting in the garage right now with a broken sunroof. Surfing the Bummer forums found this is a common glitch with them. Each trip to the stealer will relieve you of $1500-2000 to replace the cheezy little plastic parts.
If anyone from BMW even walked through the Mini plant I would run away from a sunroof.

To each their own.
Weight, utility and cost all speak against to to me.

For wind in my hair, give me a convertible.

Is there a way to change from a sunroof to regular tin roof?

I remember a thread that someone changed roof skins and stuff, and yet another where the glass was taken out and replaced with CF.......tried searching but didnt come up with much...

I just might become a convert and join the tin roof crowd(if its not too $$$)

Aha! a MAC addict! So that's how you got that cool APPLE signature graphic!

I bet you are a graphic designer also 'cause who else likes MACS? I like real PC's, I tease my daughter all the time, she is a designer and MAC addict like you. And I bet you like small dogs ... or worse ... cats! Maybe even a vegetarian! And cameras ... I bet you use a Canon, not a real camera - I am a Nikon addict! (OOps sorry, Leicaguy) And oh, ... I like white bread ...

But I have the convertible with the part way open sunroof option, so am I going to hell ??? ... oops gotta go, put up my top ... its raining ....

Wait wait you own a convertible and your making fun of Mac owners for owning small dogs, don't they come with man purses If thats not the pot calling the kettle...

BTW if your a PC fan, shouldn't you be driving a Chevy or a Hyundai or something else that made like crap that every other sheep drives.

Seriously, sunroof banter aside, Macs rule, hell they even run windows faster than PC's

And rule #1 is convertible owners should never make fun of anyones lifestyle.

Sorry,Judges, I can't hear you, all that wind in my convertible drowns out your opinion. But you sound like a nice guy - can I add you to my buddy list?
(I hope APPLE has more of a sense of humor than you do).

p.s. Apple's MAC is nice, but your MAC is a toy Also, I get the sense that APPLE is perfectly capable of defending herself. I see you are from SINY - how are they treating you in there? Do they let you out on week ends?

See what you started APPLE? You have guys fighting over you (at least your opinion)...

Never lived in FL I see, tint all you want it's still gets hot inside and there are very seldom ANY non-humid days, at least not from May to December. No sunroof on any of my MINIS, never had them and never will. Only use I see is maybe to see a traffic lite straight above you to see it change. Also is a lot safer in the event of crash, that glass doesn't provide much structural support up there for the roof. Take sheet metal roof, CUT OUT BIG HOLE, fill it with glass, NO THANKS!

I live in SoCal. So it gets warm. Would not be with out the sunroof - instant air with out lowering the windows.
That said..
What I don't understand is the dual pane.
Number one, if the second pane is for rear seat pasengers, then Mini (er, BMW) didn't realize that 99.9% of Mini drivers don't, or can't, carry rear seat pasengers. Would have made a lotta sense to put in a single pane.

Number two, if you are going to have a 2 pane sunroof, engineer it to allow the rear open like the front. I'm an engineer and don't know how that could be done, but it has been done with other cars. Hell, Pontiac has done it.
