Well I'm putting this post out there so you can laugh at me, or relax when you find yourself in my situation.

1) When you put your mini key in your pocket and mentally tell yourself you'll probably forget to take it out before surfing it's a good sign to take it right back out of your pocket

2) The second you get out of the water from surfing and remember that your key is in your pocket take the battery out IMEDIATLY

3) Using a paper towel, q-tip, shirt, or your tongue (to punish yourself for something so silly) clean up as much of the battery leakage/corrosion

4) Set your key in the sunlight, the goal is to dry out the innards of your key COMPLETELY (got the silver ring off but couldn't get it open any further)

5) The next day pick up a new battery and hope you're as lucky as me. Key FOB still works

 

could have been an expensive session. lucky you!

 

A good way to dry stuff like this out is to put it in a container of uncooked rice rather than just leaving it in the sun. The rice will suck out all the moisture.

Anybody know how much a new key fob costs with the keyless comfort access?

 

I put one through the washing machine and dryer accidentally. Water temp was Cold, and driver was on Delicate. Others have reported doing the same.

I think I heard something like $385 for a replacement fob.

 

To set the record straight (for me): I have comfort access. Does my battery recharge when I insert it into the slot, or not?

 

No, standard non-rechargeable battery. We have to replace it when it gets low.

I guess it is rechargeable, I remember reading it in manual. It is recommended to be put in the slot at least 2 times a year.

 

I guess that is with the Sport Button off?

I also have comfort access, and no, the battery is not rechargable. If you take two seconds to pop your battery out you will notice it uses a CR2032.

I went into the surf as well about a month ago and forgot my key was in my pocket. Honestly I was less worried about the key not working and just glad it was still in my pocket

 

The one with Comfort Access isn't rechargable, the regular fob battery is. Which is stupid because you have to put in in the slot every time anyway. Go figure.

 

Not really. I found out by accident that as long as you don't open the doors, you can shut the car off and remove the fob....then start the car without the fob in.
I stopped at Sonic and by habit just punched the fob out of the slot. When I hit the button she started right up. If you open the door you loose the free pass.

 

I am guessing it may be some sort of packaging issue. regular one can take a bigger rechargeable battery because of less components inside the fob.
