R56 DIY Boot Box

DIY Boot Box
I have a 08 Mini and a big dog. In order to transport the dog, I need to flatten out the boot area when the seats are down. I could buy the boot box but this seems like quite a bit of money for what would be used as a platform. Which leads me to:
1. Has anybody built there own boot box/pit of doom flatten-er (that doesn't involve pulling the rear seats out?
2. If you have, do you have any dimensions that you used to create it?
3. If nobody has created one, does anybody have any dimensions for the std boot box in case I get 'creative'
Thanks in advance.

The easiest method to make one yourself is to take a large piece of cardboard and cut it out to fit the outer shape of the depression in the boot. If you cut too much cardboard off, tape some back on with packing tape. Then get a piece of 1/4" thick luan (sp?) at Home Depot or Lowe's and trace your cardboard design on the luan and then cut the luan out. You can either put "L" brackets at 6 strategic points in the boot depression to support it or you can do 3 hinges on the inside edge and 3 "L" brackets on the outside edge. Just make sure that you check under the car so you don't drill into something important. You can get some cheap automotive carpet and cover the luan at an auto parts store or a fabric shop. Another method of support is to attach legs to the luan. That would make it totally removable without the need to drill holes.
