Hello All. I finally became one of you.
Yesterday I finally made the leap and ordered my new Cooper S. And it sure feels good. Now I can join in the unhealthy obsession with all of you who are playing the waiting game.
BRG/BRG, Convenience, Premium (w/wood wheel), Cold, Tuscan Leather, Anthracite, English Oak, rear fogs, Bridge spokes, hi-fi.
My brother ('04 S with a Works kit) gently steered me towards a MINI when he learned I was starting to research a new commuter car back in June. Test drove one in July before a vacation trip, and after a month or so of configuring and trying to get the wife to see one up close (she still hasn't yet), I figured the wait had been long enough.
I feel somewhat fortunate that I should be a week 39 build (my MA stated they still had a few 39 slots yesterday), but I will wait until he gives me my production number before I get too excited about it. If that's true, I should be Motoring before Halloween.
Two interesting points about this experience so far.
I had not seen the BRG/BRG combo in person before ordering yesterday, but after I signed the build sheet, I was talking with my MA and happened to turn around just in time to see a 2-week old BRG/BRG pull into the dealership. It sure looked right. Karma I guess. Definitely made the right color choice for me.
Also, with regards to the waiting game, the past 3 new vehicles we have purchased all involved waiting, and all 3 were longer waits than this will be. In 2000, we waited 5 months for my wife's Odyssey. In 2001, I ordered and waited 6 months for my Harley, and in '05, we waited over 3 months for my MDX. All were very well worth the wait, as each time we got exactly what we wanted. That being said, however, I think this wait will be far worse than those because I will be tracking the build and the voyage every step of the way. None of this "out of sight, out of mind" mentality with the MINI.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and I look forward to hanging out here, having a lot of fun with you all, both here and eventually on the road. And yes, I will wave.

I got a Heritage Softail Classic, Luxury Blue/Diamond Ice. Loved it for about 4 years. After that, I couldn't enjoy the ride anymore with so many inattentive idiots on the road, so I sold it.
Back when I met my wife in '87, I drove a 1972 BMW 2002 tii, so I guess that the MINI will be my Harley and my old 02 wrapped up in one package.
