R56 Recall service campaign as of yesterday

Okay it has been raining on and off here but as promised here are the pics of before the exhaust tips TSB and then after. The first pic is the factory exhaust tips when cold, the second pic is when hot and the third pic is after the TSB was done and taken after a long drive to heat up the exhaust.BTW my sneaker is pointing to where the exhaust tips are now so as you can see they are no longer protruding after the bumper cover.

I took mine in for the second service Friday, Oct 3 (Scottsdale) at 21K. They did the exhaust pipe exchange and didn't even tell me about it. I asked about it when I picked up the car and the SA said they just do it. It's like the other pix, moved under the bumper maybe 1/2 inch or so. It's a good thing IMO. I don't really notice it visually, but it would be much harder to burn yourself. One service dude there said his GF burned the heck out of her leg on his 07 Mini and he's doing it too.

To get back on topic, I was reading back through the topic and noticed I had missed the post saying MINI is already installing the revised tips on the new cars, sorry about that. That figures, kinda silly to ship cars that need to be modified the moment they reach the dealers.

Just curious as to how the extension is being shortened? The exhaust tips (which are removeable) butt hard against the muffler tubing as seen here>>>
So to "shorten" are they cutting the two exhaust pipes then installing the tips back on?? Or am I missing something.
I did learn something on this thread... make sure whenever I take Me'lo in for any service to make sure to tell SA NOT to do the exhaust TSB

MINI calls this a "tailpipe extension replacement" and they're replacing the old parts with new ones. That makes me doubt they're sawing off anything. Have you pulled these tips off to see exactly where the muffler ends and the tips begin? You may be seeing the inside of the tips.
Anyway, I usually clean off the carbon deposits from the tips everytime I wash the car and I've not seen anything that would suggest that a redesigned tip couldn't be shorter.

Just had my oil change service done yesterday, and sure enough, when they read my key it came up as needing the tailpipe recall. Since I didn't want the shorter pipes I asked them not to do it and they didn't. They made me sign a paper saying that I deferred the recall. They also said that every time I take the car in for service it will show up that I need the recall performed, but just to refuse it and it will be all good.
Just thought I would let everyone know.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing a warning sticker in my car about how dangerous driving is. Just these air bag warnings. I think they need a big yellow sticker on the steering wheel warning me. After all, it's the car manufacture's fault if I'm in a wreck driving these dangerous machines.
