my fuel mileage has dropped as well, from 33+ to about 31. It has happened after the first oil change (by the dealer). I checked the oil level and it looks to be overfilled, but would that adversely affect the engine?

Over the years I've always noticed about a 10% drop in fuel economy come wintertime. I would deduce it's snow tires or the winter fuel blend, or both, that contribute to the mileage drop.

--->dajiggalo: an over-filled oil pan will increase windage, which increases drag, which will reduce economy slightly. I would let the dealership know it appears they over-filled your oil and give them the opportunity for them to fix their mistake.

About 190-220 miles per fill up.

Btwyx,

I do almost all city driving (1-4 miles per trip). I like to goose the engine every now and then (on local freeways, not city streets), but am uncomfortable doing so when the engine is cold...it'd be nice to know when it has reached proper operating temperature.

I've got a Scangauge in ours which can be set to show the coolant temperature (and currently are).
Click the word Scangauge in the post quoted above to open the information website.

I had purchased one from Way Motor Works and it is the easiest possible install,
came with everything you need and is powered by your EBD Port that is located just above Hood Release on lower edge of dash.

With the white buttons, you can scroll through and set any of dozens of information display's from your car's computer.

In the Photo above; you can see it set for "MPH" (accurate) and Voltage "14.1 VLT" at top
and lower shows the Ignition Timing "2 IGN" and the "198f WT" is the coolant temperature.

Default is for a one second update, but that can be changed as well.

Lighting can be set for any color and it has "Trip Recording" and you can calibrate Fuel Mileage, speed, fuel and range etc. for Your Car.

Can also be used to read (and re-set if wanted) Check Engine Codes.

Nice mounting location. How is it held in place, and where did you run the cable?

Wow....what's the city/hwy mix? My V8 Bimmer gets better mileage than that....I'd say get it checked out at the dealer.

I have it in the same location, I stuck some padding on the back so it fit neatly in the nook then stuck it down with command adhesive (so it can be unmounted if necessary). The wire comes out of the right side, behind the tach and then down the gap between the steering column and the dash, then across the top of the footwell to the OBD socket.

It came with two sets of 'stick-on' Velcro strips and I put one of the 'loop' strips on the White-Silver (you can see the edge of it below ScanGauge)
and the other on the Dark-Grey material above. I stuck the 'hook' sided strips of the Velcro to the edges of the ScanGauge.

ScanGauge came with a six foot cable that connects to the MINI's OBD Port and I threaded this up, across and above some components,
coiled about three feet of it behind that White-Silver Panel and then out behind the Tach and to the ScanGauge.

ScanGauge has a choice of two USB type ports, one on right end, or you could use the one straight into the rear.
