You probably want to make a trip to the dealer and let them reset and record your ODB oil change.
Hopefully you have a good relationship with your service department, this keeps your warranty information up to date and provides documentation for the next owner if you ever to decide to sell the MINI.
Possible even allow for more selling value with a documented by dealer service record even if you do your own oil changes.

Minidrivr,
Per the owner's manual, this is referred to as Condition Based Service. What service gets done free in the first three years depends on how you've driven the car. I've read on this site that this may include more than one oil and filter change, wiper blades, brake inspections, overall vehicle inspections, and changing other fluids (again, depending on how many miles you've driven and under what conditions). Your dealer's service department should be able to tell you exactly what are the maximums that could be incurred under the 3-year free service plan.
My 5-week-old MCSa hasn't qualified for any service yet...

BMW products have had these service indicators since the 1980s. I'm sure there are shops that'll reset them once the warranty period is up. I know there were when I had my BMW in 1988. Back then they didn't do any free service, but if you got it done elsewhere the warranty was honored. I just wanted the stupid lights to go out.

Reset mine yesterday after an oil change that was due according to the service indicator. I have several services due in 3 months that I do want to go to the dealer for but the 4 hour to 2 day ordeal is not something to enjoy. I figured it would look better to not show up a couple thousand miles over on my oil service. I'll ask them to change it again for free. Last time they said they would change it once a year regardless so it should be covered under that. Though the reset did set it to 25,000 miles or two years.
