Usually they just use a cordless 'sawzall' to cut it out... in and out in under 2 minutes. They tend to target SUVs and trucks... vehicles with large Cats. that are higher off the ground so they can slide under without using a jack.

Myself, when I first bought my MCSa, I mulled removing the stock antenna because it added to an undesired "R/C toy car" appearance. But I've since reconsidered, and will revisit replacing it with a stubby in the future, after I've completed most of the more costly and worthwhile upgrades.
