R56 $350 oil change at the dealer. Is this normal price?

I use Royal purple every 5k, $40-50 bucks about 30 minutes and a cold beer and all done. Just cant stand paying somebody for something I can do myself. I would say if you pay more than $90 bucks you have paid too much, granted the dealer has to make a profit but that profit has to be reasonable too.

Around $90-$100 sounds about right. Thats what I was paying for the VW every 5k even though VW syas to do it at 10k.
I will be doing mine at 2k, after the break-in and then every 5k after that. Benefits of working for a dealer, bring in your oil and filter and have one of them do it on the side on a Saturday. I will still get my one free every year though hehe.

Just called South Bay MINI (the dealer closest to me now that I've moved) ... Lady on the phone quoted me $185 for just an oil and filter change and $495 for the complete oil service (which included a few other minor things like washer fluid).
Wow ... thank god for miniworx.com ...

Anyway... the way I think of it is, the oil and filter costs about ~$50 from the dealer, so anything over $50 is labor. How much $ is reasonable for labor? That's going to be different for every person.

Mercedes Benz quotes me 400$ ... for an oil change and some minor check ups, wipers and washer fluid.....
I paid 1595$ for extended maintenance out here in PR... it's the only authorized dealer , so not much to choose from ....
anyways... 22k miles for an oil service ??... every 5-7k i'll change it up ... seems quite easy... but what brand is better?... mobil, motul?...

Me? I use Pennzoil Ultra Full Synthetic. (and I wish Pennzoil Ultra Euro Full Synthetic was more readily available.)

IF I NEED TO TOP OFF MY OIL BETWEEN SERVICES, IS THERE A SPECIFIC OIL I SHOULD USE?
A wise question, my MINI-minded friend. For starters, let us remind you that required maintenance work and services should be performed by your MINI dealership. That said, we suggest you check your engine oil level whenever you fuel up your MINI. If you're low, top off with MINI High Performance Synthetic 5W-30 Oil (MINI part number 07 51 0 143 829) - the very oil we use for scheduled engine oil changes. If MINI High Performance Synthetic Oil is unavailable, we recommend using only the following approved synthetic oils. (For information on checking your engine oil level refer to your vehicle's Owner's Manual.)
The oils listed below meet MINI's Long-life rating and are acceptable for use in MINIs in the US market with gasoline engines.
Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market
- Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30
- Mobile 1 SAE 0W-40
- Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30
- Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30
Use only synthetic oils with an API rating of SM or higher. In other words, the good stuff. The choice of the right SAE grade is based on the climatic conditions in the region in which you normally drive your MINI. To best determine which SAE grade is best suited for your vehicle, contact an authorized MINI dealership.

Did an oil change on a mini '04 NA and the oil filter cap was on so tight...I had ordered the 38mm socket tool, but it was only 3/8" drive, and I needed more leverage than my 3/8 stuff could provide, so I went for the 1/2 to 3/8 converter and my 1/2 breaker bar, and had to put a pipe on the handle...ended up breaking the converter! So I put the 3/8 breaker bar on it, pipe, then using the car handhold to help me push on it I finally broke it loose. Must have been close to 200ft/lbs. And the drain plug also required a breaker bar. Not sure what Maroon had done the oil change before, but I saw receipt that said that Firestone could not remove the oil filter cap, that it was seized...
BTW, Wix makes a good filter
