Black Painted Wheels optional for R56/55/57 beginning 3/09

BMW will be offering a collection of new black wheel options for all MINIs as of March production. The wheels will be finished in gloss black and will be offered as a factory option.
In the US market the R55, R56 and R57 we will get a black (option code 2RV) version of the 16″ Bridge Spoke and a 17″ Crown Spoke as no-cost options. MINI will also offer a gloss black version of the 17″ Web Spoke wheel as a stand alone option or as an pricier alternative within the Sport Package on S models. The silver version will also still be available.
However the most interesting of all the new offerings will be an exclusive to the R57. The MINI convertible will get the new black Bullet Spoke two-tone wheel as either a stand alone option or as a choice with the Sport Package for the S model.

Another great You-ification option from MINI.

Our MINI on the way from Oxford has white Roof/Mirrors/Stripes/Wheels, but I wouldn't mind having a future MINI with all black trim and wheels as a garage-mate!

If you do it, I'd love to see the pictures afterward. I've been thinking about it as well.

I wanna cry... I saw the black web spokes in a German brochure a couple of months ago and tried to get them on my baby that I just picked up. Was told

Figures, at least I am driving my baby girl instead of waiting another three months.

Ooooooo, I like. I want to have mine completely blacked out, with (if it doesn't cost an arm & leg) to have the bolts colored dark blue to match the LiB body (the wheel bolts, not the lugs).

I was totally thinking of this too... it's great that mini is doing this.... at least it will hide the brake dust...

Be careful with the bolts...they tend to strip any color on them when they are torqued.

Well I would've cared more if I hadn't already curbed 2 of my current CSes But as of right now my OEM rims will eventually be relegated to winter wheel status.

I can see this being a very nice option , though, for future owners who don't intend to go after market.

Actually, the brake dust will still be visible. I thought the same as you, thinking I was all clever purchasing black rims, but unfortunately the dust still shows up amazingly well. I would think matte black rims would be better at hiding the dust, but I have never seen a 'dirty' matte JCW rim so I do not know. The black wheels are an awesome idea I think. Not everyone likes the silver color, just too bad it came soooo late in the black wheel trend. They are really starting to get played out... Oh well.

This is the amount of dust you can expect, 1 day AFTER you cleaned them!!! I have made it a habbit of cleaning them every 3 days. Along with the exhaust tips, if not the entire car. I think I have OCD.

I painted my wheels satin black and you don't really see the brake dust....after two to three weeks the rims will look a little faded....that's the brake dust....kind of a brownish hue rather than black...

Cool idea, I love my black wheels because of the brake dust issue too. Instead of being noticeable after one or two drives it takes about a week to notice the dust.

Black wheels are great! I don't see the dust until about a week of driving instead of one or two days worth. The black Web Spoke look great!

Ooops, didn't mean to post twice basically saying the same thing...

Hmmm looks like a cheap alternative here is to just get a big 20 inch bucket and "Plasti-Dip" each rim...

...But the way we MINI owners motor... the coating would just melt away after a few miles...

Disclaimer: joking aside, to the Plasti-Dip crew (you know who you are), if you actually do this, it's at your own risk and I am not responsible for your dipping behavior...but if you do...pictures please!

I hope the dealers have black wheel (balance) weights because silver are gonna look odd, esp. on the bridgespokes where the weights have to be attached on the outside rim.

I doubt they will... they use silver ones on the white wheels, now.

I painted my bridgespokes black and had them rebalanced with the sticky weights inside the rim....
