195/55 16 Conti Allseason RF's: Am I missing something?
Since 11/26/08 when I picked up my MCS, I have put over 2200 miles. From reading the forums, I was expecting an unpleasant experience from my RF Conti's.
But I must say it's been a good tire so far. I was hesistant to push the tire too far in the beginning (smallest tire that are on my vehicles currently are 225/40 18's) but it corners rather predictably and the ride has been pretty quiet & smooth.
Also, during the last week here in Texas, the weather had ranged from 70's & sunny to 22 degrees with freezing rain. And today, it rained all day.
No hydroplaning. No tram tracking. And tracked beautifully in the rain
Am I missing something or does the RF's quickly degrade after 4000 miles as I have read in some comments ??

Maybe you don't have the right thing to compare them to.
Runflats may be getting better. The last all season runflats I drove on (the ones which came with Quentin) were horribly slidey. I was comparing them to the R50 which was remarkable in it had almost infinite grip.
The performance runflats I've driven on since actually performed quite well, but the ride was bumpy and noisy.
The latest runflats (which were Contis), which came with Shawn actually seemed more comfortable and quiet in the breif time they were on the car.
Either you don't have the right comparison or the runflats are getting better.

It is a great tire. I have them in my 2005 R53 S. It is wear thread rate 400 (40K miles) and it is one of the very best second generation runflats in the market today and the cheapest too.
Very impressed with the handling and wet/dry traction, often a wek point in other runflats.
My Clubman S came with the Goodyear Excellence 16" runflats, good tires, rated only 200, but the Contis are much, much better IMHO.
Great tires and very underrated.

I read the same things on NAM about how bad the Runflats were, but I have the 16" Conti's on my 08 Clubman and have absolutely no complaints so far. The tires ride well, hold the road, and are not slick in the rain. Maybe I just got lucky getting the Conti's, rather than the Goodyears or Dunlops. 6,600 miles and doing fine.
One annoying thing is that there was no documentation regarding the tires with the owner's docs on delivery. I know I should rotate them at some point, but really don't know when. I was going to have it done as a part of my oil change at 7500. Good idea??

I didnt have a problem with them until yesterday when I got caught in the first snow of the year. Maybe a 1/2" on the road and had no traction what so ever. Would get wheel spin feathering the throttle from a stop, bad traction while driving 20-30mph and stopping wasnt good either. I was expecting better. Car wont see alot of bad winter driving but it will see some. I might have to go with a dedicated winter tire set up.
