Alta air intake

Looking for some feedback for the Alta Air intake

1.) how loud is the BOV?
2.) how does the intake sound?

Thanks in advance.

Like NIKE says, just do it. Both of my MINI's have ALTA's intake. Love 'em both!

Its worth it. If you are worried about sound then you might as well not modify anything on your car. But the intake is not that loud

Here is a video of it. The hissing sound after the throttle is released made me not want to purchase it. I would like to hear it in person before I bought it, but from the video it is to loud for me.

Sounds like a different beast when it's in gear and driving. I'll try get a video of mine up on youtube for a better representation of the actual sound.

It is quite noticeable when you have an open air intake. maybe not loud but certainly no where near quiet.

Cool. Thanks for the input. What performace does it deliver? Obviously more air = more power. Is it noticeable/worth it? Does it open a pandoras box of an addiction to upgrades.

I have the CAI and the turbo inlet hose. My JCW definitely is more high strung with it installed. The butt dyno claims noticeably improved results. The install is pretty easy. The intake sound and the blow off when lifting the throttle are very distinctive.

My only complaint has been that my red hoses are color mismatched between the CAI and the turbo inlet hose, but am still hoping Alta can get me a match sometime. They offered to swap for black hoses, but that eliminates part of the coolness/show factor so I declined.

I don't have the intake, well for that matter, don't have a Mini - just lurking.

But, just wanted you to know the sound that is heard after the throttle is released is the BOV - blow off valve. Hope that helps.

I thought I saw that I can't fit a Tower Brace on if I use the Alta CAI on my 07MCS. Did I read that correct?

I have the JCW strut brace with the Alta CAI. I did need to add some vibration damping felt to keep the top of the MAF housing shroud from vibrating against the underside of the strut brace. Otherwise, it works/fits just fine.

I fitted tha Alta CAI to my 2009 JCW- easy install. I test drove it for two miles then removed it. I found it really loud, don't get me wrong I like 'loud' but the noise in my opinion gets very old very quickly.

I thought so too at first. Now I'm quite used to the noise and rather like it.

Since it was my first performance mod. It is a noticable difference albeit not a lot. You will know that you have an intake.

Aren't you just sucking in hot air with these open filter intakes? Nothing seems "cold air" about the Alta intake.

My sentiments exactly. The air under that hood is probably well into the high 100's if not more. How it can be cold is beyond me.

You unblock the scoop to make it functional for air intake directly to the filter. In addition, the existing airbox intake hose running from the front grill is used to feed air to the filter from underneath it. So there are two sources of air moving in at speed from outside the car. I doubt much of the hot air from inside the engine bay makes its way into the intake.

I definitely felt extra power from the butt dyno. And on track, my JCW was very quick.
