porthos, thanks for asking the question. I've often wondered about that. Am fortunate enough to have an Isuzu Troper for surfing. Often place two 9ft boards inside or, sometimes, on Yakima rack. But, have wondered what to do if I needed to surf, but wife has Trooper
coreygo, thanks for posting the link to the red MINI and red surfboard photo.
The pic of the red mini has the set-up I suggested, pads and straps. which is what I use. The reason I didn't get the MINI Surfboard rack is because it is a $100 pad and stap set-up. I surf all the time, just don't take pics of it as it is not that remarkable..
Dude seriously. Yes that is what I did but I wanted to see what the Oem racks look like to see if they are a little more stable then the pads and straps.
Yah I've always been under the impression (solely based on the small photos I can find) that they're actually different than the usual foam pad tube + tether combination. They've always appeared to be pliable clamps that make contact with the surfboard only on the rails and then have a tether mechanism to secure them.
I've been intrigued and would love to see a picture. I was never really a fan of the foam tube method, but I need to find something before I move back to the coast this summer.
Yeah, I've been wondering what the MINI surf rack looks like myself. I'm surprised there aren't more detailed pix. Anybody have pix of longboards on top of their MINI? I ride a 9'4" board and just wondering what it would look like.
Anyone have any idea what the tether mechanism is like on the OEM rack?
The one thing I don't like about the usual pad method is the big clunky metal clasp being up there on the roof near the paint along with the leftover tether that flaps around in the breeze.
