Mellow Yellow retirement = SCRAMBLE TO GET MY MINI!

Alright! So the news about the mellow yellow retiring kicked the need for me to get my mini ASAP! So here it goes... I walk into the dealership and they tell me they are having this awesome deal with low rates and they take so much money off blah blah. Well they say its only going till the end of July but most most likely will be end in August. So... We try and look for a Mellow Yellow S that fits my build specs. Any in Colorado? No. Any in California on there way to Colorado? No. Any on the boat from england on their way to Colorado? No.

So this brought up the idea of ordering (which I wanted to do in the first place). Problem with ordering is that as many of you guys know, it take 6-8 weeks for delivery so now we are looking at the beginning of september. This is a no no. My MA thinks the deal is going to end in september which then i wouldnt be able to afford the monthly payment and I would be out $1000 that you have to put down to order.

So this then leads us to trying to find a Mellow Yellow S that fairly fits my build, in the whole country of United States.

We came up with... 3.

No joke. You heard me, 3. So now my MA is going to call up those dealers and see if they will fancy a trade of MINI goods.

So im just patiently waiting by my phone. (by patient i mean, slightly possessed, constantly checking the clock, and drinking freakishly large amounts of caffiene. Which doesnt really help my situation out. And only makes it worse. Viscous cycle.)

So yeah... funny thing is my wonderful MA who put up with me all of yesterday said, "Finding your mini is a journey. And this should make you feel good because the car we find you, is going to be yours because it is so rare and unique."

So this is my journey...

Not that I'm biased ( ) but excellent color choice!
I hope that you get the exact one that you're looking for.

Thanks Riff, the rims are 18" XXR 508's
This is how they looked when I first got them:

Those "V" inserts are actually plastic (which most are nowadays to help keep weight down) I chemically stripped the chrome off and then 2 light coats of plastic paint adhesion promoter, and three coats of spray can enamel (color was close enough for me), followed by two coats of clear coat and tadaaaaaa:

The best thing I like about those rims, when you take the "V" spokes off and put the allen head bolts back in place, it gives you a totally different look, it's like having another set of rims.

Your $1000 (or any amount) of deposit should be refundable. I ordered a car in 07 w/ a $500 deposit that was refundable. Could vary dealer to dealer and state to state.

At MINI of Towson (in MD) your $1000 deposit is non-refundable once the car goes into production.

Unless you order some wacky combination, a nonrefundable deposit for a car that is often difficult to find is ridiculous. Order the one you want! I'd try to make a deal to get the price available now. If not, well, look for a used one.

Ended up not getting the mellow yellow but from my frequent drop ins to the dealership i ended up falling in love with dark silver. So I drove home RIGBY on July 11th - a dark silver S with cold and premium packages.

We have been motoring ever since and I couldnt be more happy!

I'm sorry you didn't get the Mellow Yellow Mini s. I live on Guam, and there weren't that many options. My wife was originally set on getting a yellow VW bug, before I talked her into checking out the mini coopers already on island. We looked at several, but all had sun-roofs which isn't really that great an option to have a tropical island: ie the heat build-up through the glass and the sad fact that the rubber deteriorates and corrosion starts eating away at the roof. We decided to do a special order Mini Cooper S, Mellow Yellow body and matching roof. With the premium interior and exterior trim options, the car cost about $36,000 . $4,000 of that was for shipping, and port cost from the UK to Guam direct. But we don't have any regrets, we love the car. If I buy another BMW Mini It will be the choice you made. Happy Motoring!
