It's only an oil and filter change at the one-year anniversary IF you are low mileage and haven't reached your scheduled service. The one-year freebie is not a scheduled service.

I've been looking at it. $1795 from my semi-local dealership, though, so it's a bit much to bite off at the moment.

The real question is: "How is your mileage so low?" Don't you guys like your MINIs? I'll easily have 20,000 miles by my one year anniversary and I only have a 25 mile roundtrip commute. I'm out driving my MINI(s) every minute I can. I look for excuses to drive and pretty much attend every MINI event in a 5 state area.

We like the MINIs, we put about 16,000miles/year on them in total, which is up from about 12,000 with the previous car. About 8000 a year each usually means we need the low mileage service at least in the first year.
and I only have a 25 mile roundtrip commute.
7 mile commute for me, and the wife doesn't commute.

So, just got back from my first service. I took it in when the OBC said 3,400 or 07/2009. After the service, it says 9,000 or 07/2009. Yes, 2009, not 2010. Does this make sense?

Also, they did not add any coolant fluid, or wiper fluid, and as far as I can tell they didn't give me new wipers. I guess I'll be giving them a call back tomorrow.

i asked about that the other day when i was in. i was quoted $1695 for the service extension, and $2995 for the warranty extension. but if i bought both, they would take off $500

Yeah that's about right. My date thing hasn't ever changed since I got the car. My yearly was a 14k. Then the mileage went off at 22k for the first time. I asked for wiper blades and the cabin filter. Now it went off again at 30k so I'm going in on Saturday. I don't think I'll get free front brakes but I'll campaign for it.

I was playing around with the settings and noticed that you can change it yourself. I can't find it anywhere in the owners manual. So maybe it's just a reminder we can set for ourselves? So they'll change the oil in another 9000 miles and not 15000 like the first time?

My Mini miles are so low because I work from home and have a wife and 2 small kids under age 3. My life (right now) is all about helping the wife w/ the kids when not working.
I feel lucky to have put 3600 miles on my car in a year. Any more explanation needed?

I bet that Porsche sitting in your driveway doesn't help the MINI mileage.

HA, no it doesn't. -The Porsche is actually getting serious upgrade at this moment, increasing HP by about 100+. (racing cam, racing head studs, bore out the intakes from 32mm to 38mm, re-machining the heads, higher performance exhaust, new transmission gears + synchro, bigger turbo, etc.. ...I've taken it to a race shop ..they've been working on it for 2 months now, another couple weeks and it's all complete). The car is going to be a serious rocket!

No, the next service is just to get things checked over. The service after that will be the next oil change.

...i am starting to think that after this 1st oil change (1yr + 3,600 miles) if they don't change it at 2yrs + 8,000 miles then I'll probably just say screw it to their "Free" Service and just start changing the oil myself every year ..I mean what's it cost about $50 for the good oil and filter?

Okay, thinking about this more and looking over what is actually done for low mileage 1st year (oil change only). I've decided to cancel my appointment and just change the oil myself.

I would have to bring my car in at 7AM to get it back before they close (Mini of San Francisco is super super busy and they sometimes don't get your car to you the same day). Thus, I'd have to pay $6 for bridge toll, $15 for breakfast, $15 for lunch, $12 for a movie ...all stuff to kill the day while I waited for the car, ..when all is said and done I'd have spent about $50 and wasted the entire day.

I think i'll just replace the filter and oil myself.

Only service I especially care about is the valve adjustment ...the service website says something about a valve adjustment "if needed". Yet I expect this to only be needed on high mileage cars. So my Mini will probably never get this service for free, as the rate I am going it will take 15yrs to get 50,000 miles on my car.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed in my "free" service. I ended up spending more in gas usingmy brother's car for the day and getting back to the dealer than I would have just changing my own oil.

Got my first annual Mini Service this morning. I only had 7,300 miles so they changed the oil and filter, replaced the wiper blades all around and did a multi-point check. They didn't reset the OBC of course since this oil change was driven by calender days instead of miles. I dropped it off at 7:45 AM and it was ready by 10:30. I did my own oil change at 3,000 miles and since my dealer is only about 8 miles away this oil change was well worth the visit.

Oh, I declined my tailpipe extension "fix", so the left it as is.

I just had my 1st OBC generated service at 19000 miles. They changed the oil and filter, flushed the brake fluid and changed the front brake pads and wear sensor. They changed the in cabin micro filter. They installed a carbon fiber hood scoop. All free of charge.

No evidence they changed the wiper blades or the engine air filter.

They tell me my rear brake pads are due in 8000 miles.

The car's a lot of fun, but I'm a bit uneasy about how fast I'm burning through my service/warranty period.

I am at my 1 year mark, MCS 09, 19,350. I call at the 6 month mark, and they said, if there is no light, don't worry, drive and have fun... tire rotation is extra though

It was 5 months and 1 week from time of purchase to my first service.
I just passed the 6 month mark on my MINI, and at my last fill-up, the odo read: 18,178.

Funny thing is, after my service, the service warning when you start the car said it was due again in 7,000 miles. I checked the messages and it was for front brake pads. That was about 3 weeks ago, and now it reads 8,000 miles until due... and I've put on about 3,000 from when it first said 7,000! Weird.

One good thing about replacing the stock runflats: I get free rotations at any Discount Tire location. Just got one on Saturday, as a matter of fact.
