WTF IS THIS?!

This really gets me out their. Well when i got home today from chicago went out in the mini. Earlier this night i see some stuff on my hood that looks like dried coke or oil or something blackish. I wipe it off with ICE by turtle then it just wipes away, but then when i am looking at it in different light i see spots where it was where it has possibly eaten away at the paint! So then i try some wax and that didnt work either! Is their any way i can get this out? or should i just buy a new Cooper S hood? Then earlier this night standing behind my car to help my friend who blew out his tranny racing, looking for an allen wrench stood too close to the exhaust then AHHHHHHH!!! the exhaust burnt the flesh off of my leg what next!

The burn is a common thing, I just know to stand to the side.

The stuff on the hood? Cosmoline--can't do anything about that. I have it on both sides of my hood. Not going to get it fixed until the rest of the hot-season is over so as not to have to redo it again.

Still love my car to death. 1.5 months old, 2222 miles, plenty of little quirks, none big enough to make me even doubt the purchase.

If it really is cosmoline, MINI will probably fix it.

There was a recall for the the tail pipes. Did you not get a notice?

Try some wax first before you go out and buy a new hood! Of course even before you buy a hood and if wax doesn't work then you could try having it repainted. Oh, put some aloe on that burn...

The recall on the S was for replacing the tips with some shorter ones cause too many people were burning their legs because of the central placement of the tailpipe and how it stuck out. You're the first I've heard with a JAC to burn his leg. Gotta be proud of that.

Oh, you are right. It is only on the MCS. Didn't notice he had an MC.

Exhaust pipe is hot. Do not touch it when it is hot.

Problem solved, I just saved BMW another million dollar recall campaign.

Don't be too proud - - I did it with my JustaCooper a year ago, just after I got it. Nasty!

No recall notice issued in Canada, as far as I know.

BTW, I think it's a British car thing. My '69 MGB has "branded" me several times over the many years I've owned it. Right leg scar = MINI, left leg = MG.

since nobody has bothered to say it.....you don't "fix" flaws in the paint with wax or detailer.....and why on earth would it be cosmoline? based on the OP description, he didn't describe cosmoline....and there was no indication that this was at a new delivery. Was it vandalized? I don't know....but

If there is something that has been on the car, the first question is if the contamination is persisting on the surface, wash the car and use a clay bar and some paint cleaner....if there still appears to be something there then use some polishing compound, followed by some meguires scratch X, several apps of each......do some reading in the detailing forums (I am not a detailing pro)....if etching is still persistent then you can have a pro hit it with a buffer. If that doesnt get rid of the flaws... Then and only then should you talk of a new hood

My friend burned herself on my MC tip the other night. Wasn't that bad though. I noticed that most MC tips don't really stick out, but for some reason mine sticks out 4-5 inches outside the bumper.

I had a spot in the middle of the hood that I was really worried about, but it came out with wax. I think it was tree sap.

Have the MC 2 weeks now, got my first burn yesterday - I feel like I am official now. A small branch about an inch thick and 2-feel long got caught up in the axle (I guess) on the rear pass side, got down to the floor to look underneath and BAM...I got branded.
