The reason MINIs rattle!
They ride so rough so we can manoeuvre like no other car and zip in and out of traffic like no one else can too. stiff suspension required and run flats don't help either.. i surrender to the rattle as mini cooper s ain't no BMW 3 or 5 series for ride and i would not want it any other way. rough ride equals extra vibration and ultimately some plastic will rattle loose.

my Porsche will out handle my Mini in any situation no contest and not a single rattle.
My Mini doesn't rattle that much ...maybe a tiny bit here and there. Yet what I seem to notice is plastic parts in the interior that are doing the rattling. My Porsche for example is all leather and metal. There is very little plastic on that car. Even though it's metal and leather the entire car is only 2400lbs ...extremely light.

my 05 S was a rolling symphony of rattles, squeeks, boops, buzzes and all kinds of plastic on plastic/metal chaos--some fixed, many not.
That car had a dash rattle soooo freaking loud it sounded like bubble wrap being twisted and popped. car was in the shop for nearly a week, and was mostly fixed.
but the 09? other than a (fixed) rattle in the headliner near the toggles, and an occasional high-pitched buzz in the tach assembly, rock freaking solid. so....
05: heavier and more expensive materials = crappy BQ
09: lighter and cheaper materials = superior BQ. weird.
(A lot of it too is the road surface at any given time.)

Mine started doing the exact same thing after its first dealer service last June. Probably just coincidence, although they did fix my driver's window dipper issue at that time. It's the only rattle I have. It wouldn't bother me at all except for the fact that the lock button on the driver's side is close to my left ear - - hard to ignore! Locking the doors stops it.

Are we following proper break-in procedures and taking care NOT to travel at continuous speeds during the first 1K miles (ie don't use cruise control, and travel on a variety of different roads at a variety of different speeds)?
I do this with every new car, including our currently brand new Clubman. The Mini is still too young to tell, but no rattles in the Mustang (28K) or Taurus (43K) yet, and those cars have also been accused of being "rattle prone." Mine aren't.
